My Lexmark X6170 scans but the scanned document is not clear or visible , the words are very light .

You could try to increase the Scan Resolution to improve scan quality using the Lexmark All-In-One Center application on your computer.
  1. Go to Start menu > Programs or All Programs > Lexmark 6100 Series > Lexmark All-In-One Center.
  2. Click Scan menu.
  3. Click See more scan settings.
  4. From the scan resolution dropdown, select a higher resolution value. 300 dpi is the default setting. Note: Increasing the resolution value also increase the scan file size.
  5. Try to scan again.

To scan, you probably have to use Microsoft Fax and Scan program. It works just fine with the X6170 ... it just took me all afternoon to figure that out.

If this helps you, please come back and vote Yes so that I know I helped someone. Thanks!!

Hi, I downloaded the software for Lexmark X6170, but the scanner does not work. a) is a download available, b) what are the steps to download the windows scanner thanks

If you're using Windows 7 (and perhaps XP), you have to use Microsoft Fax and Scan program. It works just fine with the X6170 ... it just took me all afternoon to figure that out. It has to do with 32 vs 64 bit issue.

If this helps you, please come back and vote Yes so that I know I helped someone. Thanks!!

I have finally after several days and much information from this site installed my driver for lexmark x6170. I had to go thru the windows control panel. Now however, I do not have the software-- for the...

Go to Control Panel-->Printers and check whether your printer is listed there or not. Right click its icon and select it as a default printer.
Now you can scan and print from any application like MS Word or Adobe pdf. Just select the print option and your printer will be listed there, and you can print.
Please use Windows Scanners and Cameras or Photo Gallery for Scanning.
If your printer is not listed inside the control panel, then it is probably not installed properly. You will have to uninstall it and then reinstall the correct driver.

Lexmark X6170 doesn't seem to work with Apple ibook G4

I've enjoyed using a Lexmark printer with my Macs (a G4/PowerBookand
iMac Indigo, both running OS X 10.2.3), so when I needed an all-in-one
for my hobby shop, I bought a Lexmark X6170. Looks like a great unit,
but unfortunately, I cannot find any Macintosh drivers or downloads
for it on Lexmark's site. I contacted Lexmark's Customer Support, and
received the following unhelpful replies from India:

"Please accept my heartfelt apologies for the problems you are
experiencing with your Lexmark product. But Lexmark X6150/6170 do not
support MAC."

"To the best of my knowledge, there are currently no plans to develop
Mac drivers to support this model. Thank you for notifying us of this
request. I will forward your comments on to our development
department, as it is only through input from you, our customers, that
we can make these important business decisions."

I'm hoping forum members can help me out with some kind of
work-around, as it seems (to my naive mind, anyway) that the elements
to make this unit work with my Macs are available; they just need to
be gathered together. Here's my reasoning -- please tell me where/if
I'm wrong:

First, I'm assuming that it's very likely there's a printer driver for
the printer section of the X6170; since most Lexmark printers are
supported on the Mac (like my Lexmark Z22), there must be a driver for
one of Lexmark's many Mac-supported printers that would work with the
X6170.

Second, the scanner is a USB input device, so the interfaceis no
problem. I'm assuming that, like most modern scanners, the one in the
X6170 is TWAIN-compliant, so it should work directly in Photoshop, or
with a TWAIN-compliant third-party scanning app like SilverFast.

The copier and fax functions of the X6170 are, of
course,stand-alone,so there's no problem there.

I really don't want to give up on the Lexmark X6170 (especially since
the original packaging got thrown away!). Please help me explore some
"out of the box" solutions to mating my Macs with the X6170.

Scan file from Lexmark 6100 is very large

If the documents you are scanning are black and white, make sure you are selecting that in the scanner dialogue box. If you need to keep gradiants, but don't need color, try selecting grayscale. If you are adjusting your DPI (dots per inch) to the maximum (300), try using something lower (recommend 150). Lastly, check the settings in the software you use to create PDFs to ensure they are the same as what you use at the office.
