It should only set the password on the router

Unfortunately, there is no way to recover a lost or forgotten password from a router or access point; you will need to reset the device to factory defaults. However, once the device is reset to factory defaults, you can use the default username ("admin") and password (either "password" or "1234" depending on your router) to reconfigure your router settings.

or

if there a small hole in the front or back of the router push a hair pin in to reset to factory settings

hope this helps

Info on how to reset the router

You can factory reset the router using the small button on the back, hold it in for 30 seconds with the power on to the router. This will clear all settings from the router including the password, so you will need to set up the router again after the reset.

I have lost my network security key. My router is a Netgear

If you have lost it for good your best bet is to reset your router to its defaults and then set a new one. You should find a button, usually red, on the back of the router. Press that for about 30 seconds or until you see the lights cycle. The router will now be returned to its defaults and you will be able to log into it using the default credentials and set it back up. Good luck.

I need to reset my password

In order to get your router back to the original settings, you must push in the reset button (usually on the back of the router) for somewhere between 10 and 30 seconds depending on the router. You may need a pin or something small to push in the button, because it can be recessed. Once you have reset the router, the username and password will be changed to the defaults, admin and password, respectively. One thing you must remember is that resetting the router will change all of the router settings back to the factory settings. This means you will lose all of the changes you made since you got the router. Make sure to write down any things you've changed, so you can change them back after the reset. Also, I recommend updating to the latest firmware after the reset.

Does a 10 second reset on a NetGear router reset everything. Even the password on the network and so on.

It can... Are you talking about holding down the reset button for 10 seconds? That may or may not do the actual reset, on some models you have to power it on while holding the reset in, but in any case... 10 seconds is more than long enough to do the job, as long as the sequence was performed properly.

The login, password, and basic settings should all revert to factory defaults. Remember to log in promptly and setup a new ID and Password so no one else can get in with the defaults and change it on YOU. 8^)

Good Luck..

Log in to the management console, if the settings have changed you will have to reset the router to the most basic settings then start it up again, do this by turning to the back of the router, most routers have a pin sized hole in the back, stick a pin down that hole and hold it steadily pushed down for 5 to 10 seconds, release and wait 5 to 10 seconds and try again, hope this helps..

How do you reset a password?

Easy, reset the router itself, should have a tiny pin hole in the back that has a button that you must compress, just google reseting your model.
If you have any problems let me know.
