I have an Asus m2npv-vm motherboard and two pcie network cards from various vendors. None of them is working under FreeBSD: should I configure pcie in BIOS some special way to get them work or is there a motherboard limitation not to use (the short) pcie slot for network cards? Or this is rather an OS problem? thanks

FreeBSD is pretty picky when it comes to Network cards, i have mostly had luck with the brand name Intel network adapters, or Netgear, NetLink, but i suspect its probably more of a unsupported card by the OS then anything else.

The driver is not on the Asus dite

The driver would be located on the manufacturer's site of the LAN card.
Most LAN cards will use the Generic Windows Driver included with windows.
It will be recognized as new hardware an auto install on startup.

Hey there, I would try clearing the CMOS. Pull the power cable off then find the clear CMOS pins and jump them out for a few seconds. You may have to reconfigure your bios but hopefully it will work for you. If not and you get no error beeps meaning its not post and you need to replace the board. Good luck.

IDE ports in asus m2npv-vm & m2n-mx motherboards

hi, i have a couple of those boards. they have 2 ide ports on them and 4 serial ports. if youu do get the m2npv-vm, one thing that is weird about it, one faces up from the board and the other lays flat off the edge. also the ports are right next to each other and the polarity (which side you put the ribbon cable stripe on) is opposite each other. so if you don't use a keyed ribbon cable you might hook them up wrong.
