I got a new dell pc for christmas. my current pc is internet connected dsl thru centurylink (formerly embarq) with an embarq model: eq 660r adsl router. i would like to keep my orignal pc connected and would like to know if i could hook up my new pc using a second eq 660r adsl router. when i called centurylink to request a second router they sent me a gateway series 660 which is also wireless capable, but i do not want to connect wireless, i was also told there was a $4.95 monthly fee on this router for service/warranty. i can buy a new embarq 660 router online for about $20 so it seems to me that it would be foolish to use the gateway 660, especially with the service charge if i can use a second eq 600r adsl.

Hi i have a 2wire gateway 2701HG-B modem I used for AT&T DSL internet. I moved to a location where I cant get AT&T. Is it possible to use this modem with centurylink for internet?

Hello, if centurylink is a DSL service, than you can use it for internet. It appears that Centurylink is a DSL service depending upon which service you get from them. In that case, you can use it for their service.

I received a 660R modem from CenturyLink. It works fine when connected to a single computer but when I connect my Belkin Pre-N v1000 wireless router, I no longer have an internet connection. CenturyLink...

Please see the attached manual for the centurylink router and modem. There is a section discussing RIP direction. Normally it is set to none because it assumes the centurylink unit is your router. Change that setting to both and then reconnect your router and see what happens.

The link for the manual is:

ftp://ftp.zyxel.com/P-660R-61/user_guide/P-660R-61_3-40.pdf

If this works, please indicate so with your response. If not, then provide more information about what you have tried and how you are trying to set everything up.

Good Luck.

This are some steps on how to setup your modem/router
New DSL Modem Available
Embarq is now shipping an updated version of the DSL Modem called the "660". It is smaller than the older model (645) and is much easier to setup.
A few years ago, Sprint/Embarq changed the way their servers communicate with the DSL modems. The new method is called DHCP, which is how the 660 modem works. The older 645 Modem used "PPPoE". So it's best to have the new 660 DSL modem.
The older 645 modem also had the same default IP address as the Linksys Router (192.168.1.1) - so you had to change one of the addresses to make them work together.
The new 660 DSL modem uses 192.168.2.1 as the default IP address. This does not conflict with the default IP address of the Linksys Router (192.168.1.1). Note that if you had changed the Linksys Router IP address to 192.168.2.1, then you will first need to reset it back to the default address 192.168.1.1.
If you call Embarq and request the new 660 DSL modem they will sent it to you at no cost. When you install the 660 DSL modem, you need to be sure that you power down the old 645 modem amd leave it off at least 1 hour before you plug in the 660 DSL modem. The Embarq server needs to "forget" the old 645 modem. After an hour, all you should have to do is plug in the new 660 modem and everything should start up properly.
Call Embarq Tech Support 1-877-646-3282 if you have problems setting up the modem. If the Internet Lights does not come on after a few moments - then call Embarq Tech Support.

Do you have a zyxel series p600, 660R-D1 dsl modem user manual? I have one and have a range of kbps of 3050 to 240 kblps. I thought I would read and see what to expect, Earthlink and the phone company...

The user manual or user guide of the 660R-D1 is available on the zyxel.com site, if you go into the following path:
Support and downloads --> download library ---> up at the right hand side top you see a drop down menu with list of products, choose 660R Compact series. This brings you to the download page and you can choose out
Model :
P-660R-D1
Version : 3.40
Language : English
OS : N/A
Release Date : 07-14-2006
Size : 7 MB

Citating the part from the manual that I think is important (see down at the bottom of this post the speeds, and the note that it may be influenced by your ISP standard. Ask your ISP what they use.):

1.1

The ZyXEL Device is an ADSL2+ gateway that allows super-fast internet access over analog (POTS) or digital (ISDN) telephone lines (depending on your model).
In the ZyXEL Device product name, "R" denotes an integrated router and "D" denotes a chip set standard.
Your ZyXEL Device product name ends with a number. Models ending in "1", for example P660R-D1, a denote a device that works over the analog telephone system, POTS (plain old telephone service). Models ending in "3" denote a device that works over ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network). Models ending in "7" denote a device that works over T-ISDN (UR-2)

1.2

The DSL RJ-11 (ADSL over POTS models) or RJ-45 (ADSL over ISDN models) connects to your ADSL-enabled telephone line. The ZyXEL Device is compatible with the ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+ standards. Maximum data rates attainable for each standard are shown in the next table:

ADSL:
Up: 832 kbps Down: 8Mbps
ADSL2:
Up: 3,5Mpbs Down: 12Mpbs
ADSL2+:
Up: 3,5Mbps Down: 24Mbps

Note: if your ZyXEL Device does not support Annex M, the max ADSL2/2+ upstream data rate is 1,2Mbps.
ZyXEL Devices which work over ISDN do not support Annex M. The standard your ISP supports determines the maximum upstream and downstream speeds attainable. Actual speeds attained also depend on the distance from your ISP, line quality etc.

Please let me know if the above answered your question:)
