I have a Piomeer SD 532HD5 Tv with 2 problems. First, After watching for a while it will pop with a flash on the screen and turn off. I will wait for 5 - 10 minutes and turn it back on until it pops again. Second, when watching anything in HD the screen is hour glass. I tried to adjust the convergence but did not help. I am at a point wondering if it is even worth repairing???

I would like to fix the TV I have because it is housed in a custom wood cabinet. I do have experience sodering and electrical. From may explanation of my problem would you be able to determine what parts I would need and the best place to purchase them? Does the service manual diagnose problems also?

Hi,

The problem is with the convergence IC's and repairing it would cost you up to $300.

If you would like to make this DIY project, you'll need some electronic experience, basic tools, and voltmeter, time and some good soldering skills. The repair manual should also be something you have.

If the TV is more than 5 - 7 years old, then
I would suggest you to get another one if you are not on a tight budget.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

    Thanks for your response!!

The replacement ICs for your set are part number: STKxxx-xxx and are available from www.encompassparts.com
for $19.95 each (needs two). You will also need at least one (likely
two) 5 Amp pico fuses. If you wish to repair this yourself, the ICs are
located on the large heat sink on the center (Power) PC board. The fuses
are also on this board, near the center, location numbers: F9AXX and
F9AXX. You would need soldering equipment and very good soldering skills
    to replace these parts.

The service manual is required to know the part numbers and the exact location. The IC's could be easily available from radio shack.

You could buy the service manual from :-

    Hope i helped you.

SD-532HD5 TV shuts off when watching

Its is a cold solder joint on the board. The board is the one located at the bottom right of the tv when looking at the rear. Mine did the same thing. After refreshing mose of the large solder pints on the board, it stopped. Hope this helps!

Removing the protective screen on our Pioneer SD-532HD5

Pop the bottom front cover off (that is over the speakers) first. This will expose 2 brackets that hold the moulding around the screen in place. Un-screw the brackets enough so you can get the moulding off and take it off. Once the moulding off you will see the brackets that hold the actual screen in place. Loosen these brackets and VERY carefully remove the screen (it will wobble and bend so I would recommend 2 people do this). Lay the screen down on a soft surface that will not scratch it. Clean and re-install screen, tighten brackets, re-install moulding, tighten brackets and pop the speaker cover back on.

Pioneer SD-532HD5 Projection Screen TV won't turn back on.

the problem with pioneer projection tvs is that when they made the boards they never used enough solder for the circuits and you get cracks in the runs. thats why heat and cold will effect it. I had the same problem and I took out the board and resoldered every track I could and it works good now but my remote wont work if anyone has any info or prints to this tv please post on here

Off Screen Picture

There is a width problem. There could be a control inside to control this but the TV should not change so drastically. There is most likely a problem in the width circuit.. This is a high voltage circuit, and is very dangerous to tinker or experiment around inside of. Your best bet would be to call an Authorized Pioneer repair shop and have them have a look at the set. Good Luck

Pioneer SD-532HD5

This fault happens with just about any tube type projection set. The convergence IC's simply need to be replaced. They are two black, 2"X3", stand up ICs that will start with the letters STK on the surface of them and are mounted up against a large metal heatsink. If you have the soldering skills this should not be so hard for you to do, but please if you do not have the skills or experience to replace these IC's call in a pro to assist you with this repair. Good Luck
