After using the camera I turned it off and when I went to take another photo and pushed the on button, the camera came on and then immediately turned itself back off again

Why don't you push the exposure compensation button (the one that's half-black/half-white with a plus and minus) make sure the setting is on "0" and push the button again to turn it off.
Are you sure it did not take a picture? It is possible your picture review function is turned off so you do not see a preview of the picture immediately after clicking on the shutter. You also need to push the button down long and hard in order to ensure that a shot is taken
I have a Sony W120 and had the same macro problem, tried all the
"solutions" mentioned here without result. So I pressed the "Home"
button, went to "Settings" (last menu item at right), then "Main
Settings", and used the "Initialize" functio. Problem solved !
Yes, there is definitely a fault with your camera.
You should be able to return it for a replacement.
I wouldn't experiment too much with batteries in this camera. batteries discharging this quickly are likely to overheat, causing unmentionable catastrophe.
If you hit the format button, you will lose images without warning. I am not sure if this is what you did, but if you really need the images, stop using the card for the moment and try some data recovery software:
TURN YOUR CAMERA ON.... PUSH THE MODE BUTTON TIL U SEE THE LAST PICTURE YOU TOOK..... THEN PUSH THE BOTTON AT THE TOP THAT HAS AN ARROW POINTING TO THE LEFT ... TO GO THROUGH YOUR PICTURES
I have the same problem. Its actually because the On/Off button got pushed in somehow and its stuck. At this time right now, im not sure how to make it unstuck, but sometimes it will stay on. But when you push on, since its being held down, its stuck that way and immediately turns off because its still being held down constantly. Maybe try using a thing needle to try and push it out?
it seems that the camera section is haveing troube, may be in the lense movement or initilizing system. if the camera does not initilizes while swithcing on it turns itself off by giving low battery warning.
