Question about GE 36 in.JGP970 Gas Cooktop

Uneven flame on GE profile five(5) burner cooktop. The left front burner burns uneven. The flame licks out around pots on one side and hardly has much flame at the oriface close to the igniter. Is this something I can fix, or does it need a new burner? Is this a warranty exchange type thing? The cook top is at least Two(2) years old and I am just getting around to addressing this, my wife has mentioned it many times. Thank You, Duane Hanna. I bought a refrigerator, cooktop, wine refrigerator, dishwasher, oven/microwave combo and trash compactor all GE Profile from Home Depot.

Hi,
First check the way the burner is assembled.... compare it to the other burners... seems as though it may not be put to gether properly....
However if this was a defect from new there may be a flaw or something stuck inside of it...

Probably will not get warrranty on it now... but you could try....
Anyway...

That is not that hard to fix and you can easily buy the parts yourself online...

Control knob doesnt adjust flame height?
Use a manometer to insure lp gas pressure is correct. The regulator for the stove may need adjusting. The air mixture adjustment may not be correct for PL as well.

Are the burners uniform around top? Pictures show that there is a slot on one side. The tech is probably right.. You are not the only person complaining about this. Call back and see if there is a different burner that will fit you stove.

Hot surface light stays on on GE Profile Cooktop model JP989 and On does not light for left burners. This is only happening on left burners. Left front burner goes to high with any setting on the switch...
You could have a shorted burner, if it is not then you may have gotten a bad part.

The two left hand burners of the five do not fully ignite around their circumference. On occasion they do ignite but then pop and go out. Does anyone know of a cause/solution for this?
The way you are describing your problem it sound like the gas supple is weak and pops off. On older Ge Profile cooktops things like grease can get stuck in the orifice spud. To get an idea of what Go to you left burner take off the cap and burner head and look into the hole. You will see a gold spud with a tiny hole. This is called the orifice spud. Make sure the hole is not jambed with grease. You can take it off by using a 7/16 driver w/magnetic tip. Look closely and use a tooth pick or paper clip to clean. and reinsert. If you still have a problem then the issue is in the valves itself. national_a_r_0.png

6 yr old ge profile cooktop. L Front burner ignighter spark doesn't happen but left rear is sparking with left front burner in ignight position.

Burner flame on GE 5 BURNER cooktop (JGP637) is orange
You have trash, corrosion or a mis-aligned part.
Check and repair these and you will be fine.

Ge profile ceramic electric cooktop
No recalls that I know of.  The switch for that burner has shorted and will need to be replaced.  It will be fine once it is repaired.

Burners only work half way
Remove the burner knobs, inside of each shaft is a straight slot screw adjustment, use a flshlight to see it. Sears has screwdrivers this small.While holding the shaft with a pair of pliers turn the screw in the shaft, it will be hard to turn, this is normal.
Continue doing this until you obtain the desired flame setting.
