Hi I am trying to transfer videos from Sony Handycam to PC. The files transfer and are saved as .avi but neither REAL nor Quicktime will play them back. There are various versions of PAL listed on screen. PAL B, PAL D, PAL G, PAL H etc. Which version do I need to select? (On the tape it says "PAL 8".) Thanks Sam

As I know PLA is just for your TV, and when you watch it in your computer, you needn't pay attention to it. If Real Player or Quicktime can not replay it, you can try to use Leawo Free MP4 Converter to convert your video to MP4 format with H.264 code. Hope it can be useful.

Have you tried running the .avi video files in WMP (Windows Media Player)?
If that doesn't work. You can always convert the video files to Real or Quicktime formats.
Not sure if there are some free web sites that convert AVI Files.
If not, you could buy a lifetime subscription of one video converter for a low fee.
One good one is called MOVAVI.

Re: PAL Code selection. I think that it all depends in which region you're in so that you could playback the video on your TV via AV/Audio Cable.

How to save videos from sony handycam to my home pc

If I understand the user guide correctly, you can set the capture format in Preferences and have the captured video saved as MPEG1, there may be other options depending on what that version offers. If this is the only software you have to edit video, you must capture it first to have it saved to a folder of your choosing (usually set up in preferences). After that you should be able to use Windows Media Player or Quicktime to play back the file you captured. You can convert the MPEG1 files to another format if you want by using free software such as AVS Video Converter or other software.
