InFocus LP70 Won't display Top 3/4 of screen even with new bulb

I have a LP70 DLP projector:

And have recently found that the greater top 3/4 of the right hand side of my screen is not showing up. When connected to a computer only the start menu and a few icons on the far left of the screen show and fade out diagonally upwards to the right hand side.

(a good 60% of the screen isn't displaying, it fades diagonally with a curve)

I thought it was the bulb and replaced that but still have the same problems...

**I noticed a spinning lense at the entrance of the housing where the DLP
lenses are located and thought perhaps if that stopped spinning for
some reason if that would cause the distortion.

I also got a slight burning smell from the projector prior to changing the Bulb.

If the colorwheel stopped spinning, the projector would shut off. take the lamp out and spin the colorwheel (with a pencil eraser) to the clear section and look at the square on the other side. if it's not a complete square or something is inside the square, your light tunnel is collapsing and needs replacement (also called an integrator rod).

That is caused by a collapsing light pipe.
This is a mirrored glass square component that is located directly behind the color wheel. It is comprised of 4 mirrored section approximately 40mm x 8mm that are glued together with a hi-temp adhesive to form a square. The artifact you see is one of these mirrored glass section's has come unglued and has moved inwards blocking one edge of the image. The edge of this shadow is not sharp because this failure is not at a focal point.WHEW..all that being said it's possible to re-glue it if you are electro-mechanically savvy and have steady hands. You can also occasionally find a new OEM replacement light pipe (tunnel) on eBay. But if you need to take it to a service center they will most likely just just replace the complete DLP engine (the whole optic assembly) Hold on to your wallet!!

Cheers

Model x1. Why does picture have white spots at the top of the screen?

If the projector is a DLP then it will probably be the DMD chip. The white spots are caused by damaged pixels.

if you are talking about the ribbon connection on the rear of the main board, then yes I would scrap it unless you want to try and find a LP70 on E-bay to use for parts. You may or may not get a good board but if the price is under 50 bucks it may be worth the risk.

LP70 Infocus Projector light will not start up

if you don't hear a high-pitched whir, the colorwheel needs to be replaced. if you do, it's either the lamp or ballast. if the lamp is new, replace the ballast. you can get the parts if you want to do it yourself, or you'll have to send it in. either way, try av solutions in ny. they are an infocus service center and they're really good. www.avsolutionsny.com

I have infocus lp70 model projector. i replaced the bulb and now it won't light. i put back in the old bulb and the light still wont come on...any ideas? You can tell that the projector wants to run and is...

if you don't hear a high-pitched whir, your colorwheel needs replacing. you can remove the lamp and see the colorwheel inside (colored glass wheel). if you turn it on without the lamp, the colorwheel should still spin. if it does, you have a ballast problem. if not, the colorwheel. you'd still need to send it in to an infocus authorized service center. try av solutions in ny. they're pretty good.

InFocus LP70 color problem

try resetting the settings to factory default through the menu. if there's still a problem, take the cover off. if you look from the back of the machine, inside on the bottom left, you'll see the main board attached by a large white plug. use something thin and non-metalic to push the bottom of the board towards the plug to tighten it. now do the same to the other side of the plug. this should solve it. if it doesn't, you need to replace the main board.

Please help

I believe that does mean the lamp is dead. If your model is the LP600, you need the SP-LAMP-019. A quick search on eBay found one for $320 new. From the InFocus website it is $499 so that is not a bad deal. InFocus offers a 6 month warranty, so that is something you will want to keep in mind.
