I have a Journeyman outdoor lighting system with a motion detector installed. The lights will not come on. I tested the bulbs and they work. The blinking light flashes when I get near the divice, but the lights will not come on. Thanks, Leo O'brien [email protected]

Are you tesing it during the day time?

Dusk-to-Dawn?® operation ensures lights are non-operational in daylight and only function at night, when needed. Photo controls are used to sense the amount of daylight in the area around the lighting fixture. For motion controlled fixtures with Dusk-to-Dawn?® operation, they become operational (i.e. motion controlled) at night and turn off at daybreak. For non-motion controlled fixtures, they become lighted at night and turn off at daybreak.

How to reset/fix an indoor motion detector?

Depends on the model of the detector, but wireless motions are not supposed to light up; if they light up they have been put into test mode, either by opening the tamper switch, removing and reinserting the battery, or by positioning an internal jumper to the test position. If the motion is a 5890(PI), remove the batteries and short the empty battery sockets for about 30 seconds to reset the low battery circuit, then reinsert the batteries and close the cover, making sure the tamper switch is properly closed. Other motions don't need this reset procedure, but do need all tamper switches closed. Ensure no one is moving near the motion and reset the keypad by entering your code plus Off (just like coming home). If everything is right and all other devices closed the ready light should come on.

My motion security light keeps blowing only the left side bulb.

I assume you mean that the light bulb is failing. This can be caused by a faulty connection at the base of the lamp which causes the bulb to heat at the connection point. Remove the bulb and (with power off!) examine and clean the bulb socket.

I have outdoor security lights that run on a timer. Are there some that use a motion detector?

Yes, in fact most people have motion-detector activated lighting so they can know if there is suspicious activity outside of their home. Many security companies also offer systems that allow you to operate the lighting at your home from a smartphone or personal computer, which can help save electricity when it comes to outdoor lighting.

My Motion detector #5512 quit working after we had our house washed. One bulb was out so I replaced that. Both bulbs glow but do not turn on.

Reset circuit breaker.
Check if you are on a GFCI circuit.

Probably there is no hope, but the sensor has to be removed to replaced, so take it off and hang it upside down and let dry in sun.
There is no repair protocol for fixing motion detectors, because there are no replaceable parts, or circuit boards.
Cover outdoor electronics with plastic bag when washing house. That includes light and pool timers, breaker boxes, low voltage timers, infrared cameras, motion detectors, alarm boxes, etc.
Should the power wash contractor know this? Maybe yes.
We never covered things when washing houses, and we washed 100s per year, but I told the guys not to put pressured water directly on any outdoor electrical system.
Can you prove that the sensor stopped because of washing. No.
The unit could have simply stopped working.earlier that morning, without provocation.

My journeyman motion light just quit working for no reason. The bubls are good. As mention it was working fine then just stop working. What could be the problem?

The motion sensor unit shorted to due to rainwater infiltration, if its like the last half-dozen motion sensor units I opened up. Take the unit down, open up the sensor unit head, and if its got moisture inside, you know why it quit. If not moisture, then they sometimes do what all electronic devices eventually do, they fail due to 1 of the components reaching its failure - every sensor has an MTBF
(mean time between failure).

Have Cooper lighting outdoor motion detected flood

Sounds like the relay in motion sensor. Change the bulb. Rechargeable batteries are no good after 3-4 years also.
