Gateway mx6214 will not powerup -bought a new power cord and it still doesn't work. What could be the problem?

It is, like almost all "sound cards" are these days, integrated into the mainboard chipset. If is fails, mainboard replacement is the only solution for a notebook.

Sounds like it's connecting through wireless so when it's switched off, it stops.

Go to 'my computer' if you're using XP and right click, click 'properties'.

Go to hardware, then Device manager.

Look downlown list and choose 'network adaptors'.

See if both wireless and ethernet are working OK. Use properties to check.

It is a fragile but simple process use a plastic prying tool much like the ones in iphone repair kits to pry apart te outside of the laptop it will work just a little tricky

I have a new gateway laptop with windows 7 and today it said plugged in not charging 8%. I tried everything and nothing worked so I turned it off and unplugged it and took the battery out and put it back in and it started charging...hopefully this works.

The fan in laptop generally run at startup and once there is a need. They generally just cool the cpu (processor) when needed. Once the laptop is not showing signs of overheating. There is no need to worry.

I have an MX8734 and it died on me. I have 3 batteries and 2 power adapters but there is a bigger problem at work here!

These computers (almost all gateways) have a big power supply plug (connected to motherboard) defect. They are a $6 part but the moboards are $400!

You can send it to a computer repair shop but beware,,, as some don't know how to fix plug and will tell you its the motherboard. Because its a defect it can happen again after repair. Gateway doesn not repair units anymore as acer bought them and a 3rd party is doing warranties (or not doing them from what I hear).

If I was you I would: A) Have a shop that can fix plug do it.
B) Put it on Ebay for parts (worth about $200),
C) Have a real expensive (but satisfying) target at the ol range.

Another possibility is to contact Gateway support and to ask for an official recovery cd.

If you are talking about the box that you plug the electrical cord into, it is called a "power supply". second of all, you can buy a plain ol' power supply at your local computer store (like Fry's Electronics store) and replace it with that one and it will work great! just make sure that you plug everything in on the motherboard the way it was before (you can do this by taking note of what everything in the computer is connected to and then replicate that with the new power supply-perhaps take pictures?). However, if you are computer savvy, pictures wont be necessary. Hope this helps!
