How do I remove the cover to replace the light bulbs on a Round Nautilus brand bathroom exhaust fan from the 1980's.

Most exhaust fan covers use a spring steel wire in a V shaped configuration. The bottom of the V is attached to the cover. There is a slot in the fan housing and by pinching the tops of the V togetherand insert them in the slots the spring pressure pulls the cover up tight to the ceiling.Carefully pulling the cover down enough to reach over the cover and pinch thewires together should allow the cover to be removed. Hope this helps.

I have a Nutone 672rb bathroom exhaust fan. About 10 years old with no maint to date. Fan is laboring and sounds like binding up. I removed it and am trying to get the white circular "fan" off...

For most ceiling exhaust fans, the motor portion is usually attached to a metal housing plate. If this is the case, there is usually a hex or phillips screw on one side or perhaps in a corner which retains the entire housing plate. The motor assembly is usually attached to this plate. Unplug the motor wire inside the fan housing. Remove this retaining screw and look to see if one side can slip downward while the opposite side is usually retained by two metal tabs that are in metal side wall slots. If sliding down the retainer housing is working, then once clear of the metal frame you can pull backward away from the side wall to release the two tabs from their slots. By now you should have the motor assembly and fan blade assembly in your hands ready to dismantle, or clean & lubricate as needed.

Replace motor in Broan 678 bathroom fan

I ran into the same problem, Lowe's carries Broan exhaust vents. They had both a replacement motor for all generations of 678 fans for $18, and they also had the latest generation of the complete unit for $40. I bought the complete unit, which included the fan I needed. Just unbolted it from the new bracket and bolted it to the old one. The new light housing, trim piece, and lens also interchanged. The existing one was old and yellowed, so this made for a huge improvement. All done from in the living space as well.

Bathroom exhaust fan 16 years old and noisy. How to fix?

One drop of 30 wt oil at each bearing will quiet the thing for a while, but you will eventually want to replace it. Also consider the whole fan is about the same cost as the motor, and easier to find.

Can't seem to remove the exhaust fan - I don't see any screws?

on most of these units, there are tabs that hold one side in place and across from them is a detent that needs to be physically moved out of the way for the motor to swing down (uses the tabs as hinges), once the motor mounting plate swings down the tabs will slide out of the slots and the motor is out of the unit.

please take the time to give this solution a fix ya rating.

Noisey 8 x8 Broan Bathroom Exhaust Fan (With Light) (7 years old)

Mine was doing the same thing. I found it was coated with dust.

I took the blower out [unplugged it, and removed the single screw holding it to the box], took the face plate off [removed 4 or five screws] brushed the squirrel-cage fan blades using a narrow, long and stiff bristled brush, and reassembled it [used care to align the small plastic axle on the flap valve ] and reinstalled it. The vibration was greatly lessened and the fan was about as quiet as it had ever been.
