The problem with Windows 7 as you have found out is that older Windows (XP and back) based hardware drivers do not work on windows 7. There is seldom a fix other than just buying new hardware with drivers that work with Windows 7. I would google this and see if any fix shows up at the Microsoft support site that may offer a work around for the problem. I have an older printer that would not work with 7, I found that by using the basic driver of new model of my printer it would work, but without any special features, just prints and nothing else. I ended up buying a new Canon printer (less than $75.00) in the end so I could use the photo features.
yes your printer will work as long as you have the windows 7 driver of your printer. if you can make an update of your operating system it will automatically install the printer if you update you operating system.
windows 7 has two different versions on the format side and that is 64/32
Now if your running 64 bit chances are is your printer does not like the driver that came with it so you need to find a 64 bit driver or downgrade to 32 bit windows 7 operating system.
If windows is not recognizing the printer is there you may need to download a updated driver for the printer before it will work correctly.
better check your printer manual that if it work on windows 7 otherwise it wont work, better download a new driver software for your printer from the manufatures website. and you have to specify Windows 7 32 bit. it will work.
you'll need to find out if your Lexmark software driver are alrteady supported by Window 7 OS. if not try to search for the driver for your printer that is already supported window 7
See the web site of lexmark, you might find driver suitable to your concern
