Manual is here: http://www.sportline.com/manuals/340.pdf
INPUT YOUR STRIDE LENGTH (Range: 12 inches to 60 inches or 30cm to 150cm) 1. Walk 10 steps. 2. Measure the distance that you've walked either from heel-to-heel or toe-to-toe. 3. Divide by the distance covered to arrive at your Stride Length. 4. Example: measured distance 360 inches, number of steps taken was 10 = 36 inches stride length. Important: Please remember that the length of your stride while walking is different than the length of your stride while running. If you plan to use this pedometer for both types of exercise, you will have to reprogram your stride length when you go from one to the other. 5. Press MODE button to reach the DISTANCE MODE showing MILE or KM. 6. In DISTANCE MODE, press the SET button. The display will show previous stride input in Inches or CM and start to flash. You will now have five seconds to start changing your stride length. If you do not adjust your stride length during these 5 seconds, you will have to start step 3 over again. 7. To change your stride length while the display is flashing, press the RESET button. Each press of the RESET button will increase the input by either 1 inch or 2 cm depending on which mode you are in. If you hold the RESET button, the numbers will increase continuously. Release when the display shows the Stride Length for you. 8. Once you have entered your stride length properly, wait 5 seconds - the display will flash and reset the memory - and the display will return to DISTANCE MODE

I walk a lot so have bought a Tanita pedometer PD-724.Cannot seem to set stride length Help, Iam 78

That's okay Dorothy ...

I won't hold your youth & in-experience against you.
(Walk a lot: Good girl!)

Tried (really) looking it up... (below) 3 axes pedometer
http://www.tanita.com/es/pd724gl/

Seems 2 B a serious brain teaser. .. but if you have the numbers... weight and stride length.. you just advance to those settings with your mode control.

The only ISSUE I can imagine: you could have your stride length... in CENTIMETERS (METRIC)... So if your stride is
30 inches... that equals 76.2 CM (centimeters).

Aaaand...
if you underestimate your stride a little... It will make you feel like you accomplished more... (and who's to tell).

You go girl...

Comment me back if that didn't do it for you.

Hiw many miles is 6710 steps

An average stride is 30 inches. Let's say yours is 10% greater than that, or 33 inches.

A mile is 5280 feet, or 63360 inches. You have walked 6710 * 33 inches or 221430 inches. 221430/63360 is 3.49 or about 3.5 miles.

When does the clearview pedometer reset

I'm responding 'cuz my Clearview pedometer remains something of a mystery to me, too. So I apologize, right off, about the length and confusion in this procedure. Maybe someone will add a simpler, comprehensive list of commands.
W/o access to a user manual, here is what I've learned about it. Barbara, I didn't think it reset itself... maybe you can explain. I did find that when I hit the "reset" button on the back (to the left of the belt clip), it resets the Step (number taken), Mile (distance traveled), and Kcal (calories burned) to zero. One click for all-three together.
More SETTING steps: The menu is a vertical column to the right of the digital display (from top to bottom: Step, inch, LB, Mile, Kcal). As you scan down the menu, look for the teeny > arrow pointing at one of the functions. Normally the arrow skips from Step, to Mile, to Kcal. If you've been using it, and there are numbers in these fields, you can manually reset these to zero by pressing the "reset" button. Those 3 fields should now register "0" when you scan through the modes as before. I believe this does not reset your stride or weight settings.
These other 2 modes: inch (length of YOUR step), and LB (YOUR weight = this helps in calculating your calorie consumption... I think) were a bit tricky to reset to MY body. I managed to select those modes and enter my own data somewhat haphazardly, by simultaneously pressing the two buttons on the right (Mode, and Set); and then (sometimes, but not necessarily?) pressing the Set button alone. Either way, if you're lucky (!) you'll eventually get a blinking number and the arrow > indicating which field you're in: inch, or LB.
If it is the inch field, it will read 0, or something like 30 (your stride in inches). If you want to change it, press the SET button repeatedly (lower/right) to INCREASE the number in the field. Apparently you can't lower the number directly - if you instinctively press the upper/right button (MODE), it just closes the setting function.
So in order to set to the length of YOUR step, keep pressing (or you can hold it down) until you reach your stride length... it continues up to 120 inches (!!) before restarting at zero. I haven't figured out why it opens in inch, or in LB, but by randomly pressing both rt-hand buttons, I can eventually get into each of the two fields. The weight settings in LB also adjust only upward by pressing the SET button (that is, once you get the field to open). You may have to go to 150# (its max. setting) before you can begin at zero again. Last weird note: When I can't seem to get into these fields at all, I have had some success by pressing and HOLDING the SET button until the reading (usually 0, by then) blinks off and then on, once. Then you can proceed with the other steps.

How does a person convert the steps to miles? How many in a mile?

Thats pretty hard to do since each persons stride is different. If you know your stride length then you can just multiply the length of your stride by the number of strides. S x N.

Precor efx 546 shuts off when I need to reverse direction during a workout also, the sliding is not smooth (very difficult to push the pedals on an easy level)

Procedure 6.4 - Troubleshooting the Generator
The generator performs three functions in the EFX. First, by controlling the amount of electrical
load applied to the generator, the user's pedalling resistance is controlled. Second, the generator
is used to charge the EFX's internal battery. Lastly, one of the generators six phase output
windings is monitored to determine when the unit is in use and when it is idle. This system also
determines the stride rate by determining the operating speed (output frequency) of the
monitored generator winding.
Warning
Because this is a self powered unit, it will either be necessary to either equip the unit with the
optional external power supply or have an assistant pedal on the unit while voltage
measurements are being taken. Because of the danger of working on the unit while it is in motion
using the optional external power supply is strongly recommended.
1. Perform the generator resistance test per Procedure 5.1. If any of the resistance
measurements are significantly high or significantly low, replace the generator.
2. The following voltage reading must be taken while the unit is in motion. Extreme care must
be taken to keep meter leads, hands, etc. clear of all moving parts. Using an AC voltmeter,
measure the voltage between 1 & 3, 2 & 3, 5 & 7 and 6 & 7 on J1 of the lower PCA. All AC
voltage readings will vary depending on the unit's stride rate at the time the measurement is
taken. At a stride rate of 100 strides per minute, all three voltage readings will be
approximately 100 VAC -110 VAC.
3. If any of the six readings in step 2 are significantly low, replace the generator.
