Hi, I've owned my Philips CDR770 for at least 10 yrs. By the 4th year of owning it, whilst it was recording a CD it would freeze up. Then it wouldn't be able to recover the disc. After putting a fan over...

attempt to manually clean the laser on the record deck the (left side) with a q tip dry gently spin the q tip on top of the lens , if it continues to freeze unfortunately the laser is bad and as i am a philips servicer can tell you that that laser is not available--good luck with the cleaning

It wont finalize disc just says disc error

Sounds like a duff (dirty or scratched) disc. Try another one.

Disc indicates "disc full" after only a couple minutes of recordi

Brand of disk or bad laser alignment can cause this. if you have changed brands of disks go back to the others and if you have not then laser alignment is the most likely cause and can be fixed by a certified technician in this field.

Wrong disc

Some audio cd's work better than others. I have experienced some problems with the Maxell brand so I switched brands. It can be quirky. Sometimes you get a bad lot of discs. I have had no problems since that bad lot of discs.
