Samsung dvd sh873 recorder with hard drive. we are having problems recording tv programmes with the timer. we can record instantly. we are following the manual but it is not very clear. can anyone give us step by step instructions.

Be sure you have the right time zone selected in settings. It sounds like that may be the problem.

is there any error message or can you provide some other info why you can't record..?

I have the LG DVD recorder DRT389H which has the same problem. You can't switch off the subtitles during timer recording from the Electronic Programme Guide. The only way I could stop this was to go to the main set-up menu then select the A icon. Select DTV Subtitle and choose a language that the TV programme isn't broadcast in. I chose Gaelic. The only disadvantage is that this stops any subtitles being recorded so you can't access them later.

Afraid not! ... You need a Recordable DVD player to record TV programs....
The Samsung v4600 is just a DVD player, with no recording capabilities.

I encountered a similar problem when recording and I phoned Sky and they changed my settings to eliminate standby mode for me.
No problem any more.

Hi Thanks to all. Problem was solved by my son who suggested that I turn the unit off in standby mode. Samsung DVD-SH855 will not record via timer settings when the unit is left with pwr on. Only works if pwr switched off.
Had I known this prior to purchasing I would have purchased a brand that worked with pwr on.

When setting the record timer make sure that PDC / VPS is switched OFF.

PDC - Programme Delivery Control / VPS - Video Programming System is designed to allow for late starting or running programmes. Not all channels support PDC/VPS, so the recorder may be waiting for a PDC/VPS signal which isn't there.

Either You haven't set the time/timer correctly or you need to find a way to clear/format the hard disk.
