Carrier 38CK036330 Hi,  I totally know nothing about air conditioning. It's getting so hot in LA and we really need help since our house has a 18-month old child. We have a Carrier 38CK036330 central unit, and it's not cooling the house as we'd like it to. It's already about 13 years old and we are looking for a new one to replace it. The question is we cannot find this model anymore, or do we have to replace it with the same model?? What model or brand would you suggest for a 1350 square feet house? How many tons or hp should we get? And, what SEER should we look for? These may be some stupid questions, but hopefully someone out there can help us out. Thank you very much, in advance. Andy

The model numbers change.You have a 3 ton system.The make and model that you replace it with is not nearly as important as a quality install.Do your homework on picking a contractor that you can trust.Have them do a load calculation to make sure a 3ton system is right for your house.13 seer is the minimum you can get.You need to weigh the projected annual savings of higher seer units against the added cost of having them installed.Again,get a contractor you trust and go with the best warranty.None were stupid questions.

Your Carrier guys more than likely are Carrier dealers. I would get a second opinion. Most qualified HVAC techs can work on any and all brands. It doesn't need to be a Carrier dealer to work on a Carrier. AND, if they replaced the control board and didn't test the heat, that's a fault on their part. Anytime we change a board or even a thermostat, we check ALL modes and functions. SECOND OPINION!!!

The model you gave is for a 3 ton or 36000 BTU unit...that is what the 36 stands for in the model number...

If the fan is humming and not running them it has gone bad....it will need to be replaced...not all that difficult a job...most pro's do it in less then an hour...

Total volume of home is 12,600.
total volume below grade is (6' x 60' x 30')/2 = 5400.
total - below grade volume = above grade volume
7200 cubic feet.

Hi, this is an odd voltage 380 volts. Is it a 3 phase unit? To get a 220 volt 50hz condenser fan motor, you will have to go through a refrigeration/air conditioning parts house and order this. 60hz you would have no problem finding one in stock. Carrier is a good unit, and have been around for many years. You shouldn't have any problems locating one.
