Toshiba Satellite A100 PSAAKC - No sound after Vista to XP switch

Unable to get sound from Toshiba Satellite A100 laptop after installing XP (machine originally supplied with Vista). Soundcard according to specs is a Realtek ALC861. Have tried a few different drivers off the internet to no avail. Note also Device Manager shows SM Bus Controller under Other Devices with a yellow question mark

Fchlmail is absolutely right in his post where he has suggested to download the latest drivers from RealTek's website instead of Toshiba's support site (shame on Toshiba)

Hi,
This is refering to A System Bus Or Mainboard Driver.
Try downloading the Manufacturers mainboard Drivers.
i.e 4 in 1 Driver, which will setup your Motherboard Correctly.
Also check to see if it,s enabled in the systems Bios Setup.
Usually Esc-Del Or F2 At bootup.

Windows XP for Toshiba satellite A100

you can still install windows XP on your laptop. If you are worrying about the recovery disk, all you have to do to secure your important files. About the driver?, you can download it. Anyway you can still use the CD utility of your computer and still install it.

PCI device drivers for Toshiba Satellite A100

Here's a link to Toshiba's driver download site. You'll need to choose the exact A100 model (there are several), then choose XP sp2 from the drop down on the next page, and it will give you the list of drivers for your machine.

No sound coming from laptop

did you have the laptop/notebook from new if so then you should have had a set-up disc containing all of the drivers needed to activate items such as modems, sound card, graffics card etc.
this is just a simple problem and can be rectified instantly by inserting set-up disc and loading all avaliable drivers!
if no disc avaliable then log onto the toshiba website and download the up to date drivers needed for your laptop/notebook
