Canon PIXMA MP780 All-In-One InkJet Printer Logo
Posted on Dec 31, 2010

I can't get any of the inks to print, other than the 3eBK. I have run through all the menu maintenance options and turned off the printer and restarted it. Nothing. It was working well before I changed two of the coloured inks. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the detailed instructions. Unfortunately, not long after, I could smell electrical heat coming from the printer and that was the end of it.

CANON MP780 DOES NOT PRINT

This is what works for me. Try at your own risk. You may need to clean both areas.

CLEAN PRINTHEAD:

Perform a nozzle check using the Canon software under "maintenance." If the nozzle check prints successfully, the problem is most likely not with the printhead. Otherwise, 1) Lift up the lever above the ink cartridges. Take the ink cartridges out. Put them in a plastic zip lock bag. 2) The container in which the ink cartridges sit is removable. The container is inside the moving mechanism. The container is the printhead. Tilt it slightly and pull up. This should come out easily. 3) There are round pads under which the ink cartridges sit in the printhead you removed. The large one is black. On the underside of the printhead are small slits. The one separated from the others is black. Fill a syringe with Windex. a. Run warm water over the printhead until no more ink comes out. b. Fill the areas where the round pads are with Windex. c. Set the printhead on some paper towels. The liquid will soak through and come out the underside along with the ink. Repeat steps a-c until no more ink comes out, but at least 10 times. 4) Let the print head sit and dry for two hours. Put everything back in the printer. Unplug the printer. Plug in the printer. Turn the printer off. Turn the printer on. Do a clean cycle.

CLEAN PURGE MECHANISM:

You will need a light. 1) Unplug the printer and move the printhead all the way to the left. On the far right are two rectangular basins. The smaller one is black. Take your fingernail or a tweezers and lift out the sponge pad (do not drop it). Soak the sponge pad in Windex until it turns white. Plug in the printer. 2) Fill a syringe with Windex. a. Fill the basin with liquid. b. Let it soak for 5 minutes. c. Turn the printer off. d. Turn the printer on. Repeat steps a-d until you see a small hole in the basin. e. Put the syringe over the hole and fill the basin, pushing the liquid into the hole. f. Let it soak for 5 minutes. g. Turn the printer off. h. Turn the printer on. Repeat steps e-h 5 to 10 times. 3) Unplug the printer. Put the sponge pad back in using your fingers (do not drop it). Plug in the printer. Turn the printer off. Turn the printer on. Do a clean cycle.

How do i clean the printhead on my pixma mp750

If you open the preferences option for your printer there should be a maintenance tab with easy options for cleaning and checking the results. The alternative is to use the menu directly on the printer: 1. Press Menu twice to show "2. Maintenance" 2. The first option is NOZZLE CHECK 3. Press OK This should give you a print showing the current state of each colour. If there are any missing lines in 3eBK or lines in any colours then perform the head cleaning below. 1. Press Menu twice to show "2. Maintenance" 2. Press + to show "CLEANING" 3. Press OK Repeat the nozzle check after each clean. If not improved after three attempts try a deep clean as below (cleaning uses up ink) 1. Press Menu twice to show "2. Maintenance" 2. Press + twice to show "HEAD REFRESHING" 3. Press OK Repeat the nozzle check. If still not printing correctly there are various external solutions available to clean the print head such as http://www.printheadhospital.co.uk/canon-hp-printhead-cleaning-kit.html

Brother MFC-290c printer does not print black anymore. Test print page color ok but not black printing. What is the problem?

The problem is either:

* out of BLACK ink -- replace the ink-cartridge

* clogged ink-jets -- the ink is not spraying onto the paper, so run a few print-head-cleaning cycles

* dead electronics -- not triggering the jets to spray ink, so replace the printer

Re Canon 2600 printer.I recently purchased a black Ink cartridge and replaced the old one. A week later the color cartridge also shows empty even though I hardly use color. Can I not print in greyscale...

Hi,
Please follow the instructions below from Cannon support page...

Setting the Ink Cartridge When printing, you can specify which ink cartridge to use. This is convenient if one of the ink cartridges becomes empty, you can continue printing by specifying the ink cartridge that still has ink. Note:
  • When the following settings are configured, Black Only is disabled. The color ink cartridge is used to print.
  • A type of paper other than Plain Paper is selected for Media Type on the Main tab.
  • Borderless Printing is checked on the Page Setup tab.
  • Canon recommends that you use the ink cartridges installed in the printer and not remove them until the ink runs out.

You can set the Ink Cartridge Settings from the Maintenance tab in the printer driver.
To access the printer driver from the application software, click here.
To access the printer driver from the Printers folder, click here.

  2. Select your printer model name and click 'Preferences' (or 'Properties'). The printer driver setup window appears.

Check if there is a tape over the top vent intended to let air into the ink tank and so ink can flow out to the writing head.

3eBk will not print. Canon MP780

Replacing the printhead may work, but it could be a problem with the cleaning assembly. Take out the 3ebk and run a cleaning, if the ink goes away on the pad where the ink cart. goes, then clean assy. is OK, and you need a new printhead.

Black ink 3eBk wont print

Ok what you need to do is make sure that the ink cartridge is properly inserted all the way. If it's not then you won't be able to print out black ink at all.

IP5000 3ebk problems

Hi,

I had a similar problem. Pages in blue, but nozzle check in black. Tried what you tried. Changed the ink ($). Still no change. Then tried the maintenance option to clean the bottom plate. And now it is working. Go figure.

Canon ip4000r doesn't print 3ebk (black)

First of all... have you tampered with the printer's firmware? If not, it's unlikely it became corrupted. But if replacing the ink cartridges with fresh ones, and using a new print head did not fix your problem, you may be out of luck.

Is this a new problem, or has it always been like this?

Could it be that the print driver is always printing photo? In that case, it uses the narrow black ink cartridge instead of the fat 3eBK cart. You should print a nozzle check pattern and verify that you see the 3eBK cartridge pattern. If you do, the problem is likely SOFTWARE... your driver settings, not the printer itself.

I hope this helps.

PIXMA MP780 printing trouble

If you haven't done so, I would try another new cartridge. It is entirely possible (and occurs frequently) that you got a bad cartridge. Assuming you removed the tape from the cartridge before putting it in, this is generally indicative of either a bad cartridge, bad print head, or that heads or ink tanks may need cleaning.

The Canon support page for this printer is at:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=238&modelid=10444

However, as Canon pages come up as generic pages (without the text I input for you), you will have to type in "missing black ink" (without quotes), to see the material they have posted in this regard. You will find instructions there in regard to how to clean the print heads, etc., if that is necessary. However, I would definitely try another cartridge first, especially if you haven't had that much use on the printer, such that you think these other measures may be necessary.

Please post back if you need further help, otherwise thanks for rating FixYa!
