It sounds like the magnetron may have either failed or is not being supplied with the extremely high voltage required to run it.
Make sure the !!!!capacitor is discharged!!!!! before attempting any sort of repair.
Check the door interlock switches first then the high voltage diode with either an AVO model 8 on high resistance range for short circuit, the capacitor can fail and go short circuit, the feed fuse on the primary of the high voltage transformer and then finally, the magnetron is best checked by substitution.
Hope that helps.

I have a Kitchenaid microwave model KCMS145JSS-0. It is no longer heating. What can I do to repair it?

Check the door safety interlock safety switches for proper operation. You will find them inside the cabinet.

If they have failed, the oven thinks the door is open and therefore will not turn on the heat. This is the most common reason for failure.

I have a microwwave oven that turns on but will not heat. It has never worked. Is this an install problem or unit problem? KCMS145JSS

You will need to check to find out if the microwave has all the power coming to the critical units.
If the latch switch is active then the turntable and fan must work but if there is no heat, the check on the thermal cut off switch fitted on the side of the cabin , if faulty. , the pwoerr will be cut off to the magnetron. Check also to confirm that the high voltage capacitor is working and not shorted or open.
The relay on the main boarrd also must click to switch on or else the relay or relay drive must also be checked out.

When I turn on the micowave; smell somthing burning

The magnetron (the part that heats the food) may be ready to burn out. If you smell the burning, you should then unplug the microwave, open it up and see if you can determine for sure that it is coming from that part. Unfortunately even if I am right, it is almost more cost effective to just replace the microwave rather than replace that part. You can run this microwave till it dies if you want, but I would be ready with a new one.

Let me know how this works out for you.

Microwave turntable won't turn

Most likely the turntable motor itself is bad - not an uncommon problem for that model.

Check with www.martinmicrowave.com (toll free 1-877-894-0035)

unfortunately, the particular motor used in your model is rather expensive - + - $50

Broken Microwaive Door

I'm assuming your correct model number is KCMS145JSS? You have a broken "release lever", part number AP3033332. It's reference number 7 on the exploded view diagram found here: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/sect/4/g/4/4g4rya32jj.gif You can order it by part number from Appliance Parts Pros here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383 If needed, you can download the owner's manual and installation guide here: http://www.kitchenaid.com/custserv/literature_search_results.jsp?searchTerm=kcms145jss If you need further help, please follow up.
