Hi Arijit Ray, Thanks for sharing. For me I also had to undergo the same ordeal. Finally after 5 visits to the dealer, they replaced the entire wiring harness from another vehicle. Since then, I stopped playing any movie files in the AVN system. Of course the GPS works good. But there seems to be some serious issue with your vehicle. None of that you mentioned i have undergone and i see that brakes, steering everything else works fine. So in the end, I had to end up paying 70k more for this AVN system which never works (plays Movie files) as per the recommendations. But in my experience MP4 & MP3 file formats are supported.
Rajesh.
My problem is still unresolved after 3 years. I have submitted a case in the consumer forum. Also, try the brakes on wet or uneven roads (where there is less traffic). Notice if the braking distance is significantly increased. I have interacted with a lot of i20 ABS users who have complained that the brakes fail to respond on uneven and wet surfaces.

This problem seems to be common in Hyundai i20 with AVN sold in India.
My i20 with AVN also has the same problem. The Hyundai dealer is not able to solve this issue. He has replaced the AVN system also, with no luck.
I suggest you contact your dealer to rectify this issue.
regards,
Pradeep
Yes. I remember video playback worked only once when car was in dealer docyard. But after that it is not working. Even photo viewer is not working. As this system runs on windows embeded OS. This gets hanged
Hey Pradeep, Have you received navigation SD card
Yes, SD card came with the car. it was in the cover alongwith the system warranty card
The system worked twice on my car. after that it stopped.
My car is with the dealer for the last 3 days. They have dismantled the system and sent it to Nippon (system supplier) for rectification.
I suggest you contact your dealer, this problem wont get solved on its own.
will let you know once the problem is solved
I have not received the SD card
My car's AVN issues have been sorted out. All functions are now working. Trident Hyundai co-ordinated with the system supplier and rectified the problem.
Trident Hyundai had my car from 3rd January till 8th January......
hi pradeep,
Am planning to buy i20 with AVN. What should i check in AVN before i receive it from the dealer. Should i carry a USB drive with videos and songs? Wat formats should i be using?
I have a i20 with AVN. I am facing similar issues. The MP3 or Video being played from the USB drive gets hanged and then the system reboots. I have noticed that it happens randomly. I suspect that it is a problem of loose connection as the Navigation system keeps working. I am curious how someone' problem was solved. Can you please shed some light on this? Feel free to email me at [email protected]
Hi,
Even I have faced the same problem with my AVN system. It is very frustrating that the system does not read Movie files. With lots of difficulty and after making 5 trips to Hyundai dealer, they replaced the complete USB port and the wiring harness from another vehicle in their yard. No idea how to update the OS, since MOBIS/Hyundai has not provided the SD card with the car.
My recommendation is do not go with the AVN model. Of course GPS works great with MAP MY INDIA. The problem is with movie files. Can anyone clarify which are the formats supported. I think AVI extensions read, I have personally tested it, but as everyone felt, the movie freezes after some time and then starts playing on its own. I think Hyundai/MOBIS is not equipped to do the service with the required technical knowhow for this AVN system.
You can email me at [email protected] if you have some more information on AVN system from Hyundai MOBIS
Pradeep, Sanraj, has this problem been resolved? If not, please get in touch with me immediately at [email protected] .. I have some important news for you folks...
The problem can't be solved. Hyundai released this variant without proper testing and this has been confirmed by them. The only option is to replace the vehicle as it is defective.

This is to inform you that I purchased a Hyundai i20 ASTA AVN (Petrol)
vehicle on 30th March 2011 with the registration number MH 12 GR 9013 from
Kothari Hyundai, Pune.
This vehicle came as a limited edition vehicle with Audio-Visual Navigation
(AVN) System. However, soon after taking delivery of this vehicle I realized
that the state-of-art AVN system which made this vehicle the costliest of the
i20 variants at that point of time was defective. The system continually
stopped working and restarted. I reported this issue immediately on 5th April
2011 and received a reply from them on 7th April 2011 and was advised to get
the vehicle to the workshop where this issue would be taken care of and
corrected. However, after repeated visits to the workshop in Pune, this issue
remained un-resolved.
I realised that this issue was becoming more problematic day by day and was
infecting other adjoining systems also. The system now stopped working every
time I honked, took a turn and even when un-provoked. At times the system was
starting up on its own from a "Switched Off" state. I came across blogs where
other buyers have faced similar issues with this variant of i20. I have also
faced major issues with the power-steering locking up on two separate occasions
and the brakes failing to work adequately on several occasions narrowly
escaping a major accident each time while driving this vehicle with my family.
I believe these issues are related as they are electrical in nature. When I
visited Hyundai workshop at Pune umpteen times after being advised by their
senior officers for the same, they were unable to diagnose or verify any issues
with the power-steering or brakes and often dismissed the issues as minor. I
now not only feel unsafe to drive this car but it is extremely dangerous to
drive this car in public with the above defects.
After shifting to Siliguri (West Bengal) due to my father's sudden demise I
took this matter up with the Hyundai workshop at Dagapur, Siliguri. They tried
their level best to resolve this issue in consultation with their technical
department and regional offices at Kolkata and New Delhi. They replaced every
part connected to the system multiple times including the entire wiring
harness, USB port, the AVN system itself, and parts in the steering column.
Hyundai had deployed their senior technicians from their R&D department to
come and take a look at the system as well and try various other options
possible, but the issue remained un-resolved. I was informed that there was
some sort of electrical interference that was causing this issue. However,
Hyundai mentioned their inability to detect the point of origin of this
interference, diagnose it and correct it. They also confessed that in reality
this particular model of the vehicle was released without being properly
tested.
Having come to this point, I was asked my choices as compensation. I demanded
that Hyundai replaces my car with a lower variant of the same model as this one
fails to live up to its reputation, expectations and as advertised. I feel
cheated to have spent my hard earned money on it. I also demanded that the
difference of prices between the two variants be refunded to me with interest.
I wanted my new vehicle to include the accessories and various car treatments
(under-body, Teflon, engine coat and Anti-UV treatment of glass) for which I
paid extra when I purchased this vehicle. I would also like to claim
compensation for the time spent from my professional work schedule, mental
harassment I went through during this period of two, the fuel that was consumed
while taking unprecedented trial runs and for the taxi charges I paid as I was
often left without a vehicle during the futile attempts to resolve the issues.
Folks FYI... the EBD on i20 is not properly tuned. The rear wheel only applied 5% of braking even when there is no traction on the front tires... this is across all i20 variants with ABS. In a situation where the front tires are on a slippery surface on in the air (like in bumpy roads) and you brake.. the car will feel like there are no brakes at all and it keeps moving at the same speed unlike vehicles without ABS+EBD ...
This is extremely dangerous as the car will not stop within the distance you assume it will...
If you do not believe me, try this on an empty road. I have faced this many many times and narrowly escaped major accidents.
Technically speaking.. EBD is supposed to distribute the brake force in such a way that the car stops.. in the case where there is no traction in the front wheels, the rear wheel braking is supposed to more important.. that's what EBD is for.. not only to balance left and right traction...

I have not received SD card
Great to hear that. Can you please tell me how much time it took to rectify the issue?
Hey have you received user manual for the AVN system? if yes, is possible to scan some imp pages
The issue hasn't been fixed yet. Hyundai clearly said that they are unable to fix the issue as they have no clue what is causing it in the 1st place.
Problem not resolved yet. Had to take them to the consumer court.
