How do I remove and replace the ink absorber pad/tank on my Brother MFC - 820 CW

Have a look at http://www.hstt.net/refill-faq/inside.html#Brother_mfc215c which is specificlly for the MFC-210c - no sure how similar the 820CW is.

It's in German but google does a reasonable translation.
After receiving a "UNABLE TO CLEAN" message, I've just cleaned the pads on my MFC-425CN (washed in cold water) and re-set the purge counter - all working fine now.

Mfc-425cn

Brother Support, including manuals, drivers, downloads, etc. are found at:
Brother MFC-420CN Support

The Brother web site doesn't list an actual MFC-425CN - the MFC-420CN seemed to be the closest fit.

Prints all inks OK but no yellow

Ink may be new, but their nozzles may be blocked; depending on manner of storage. To be sure apply a folded tissue paper to the ink nuzzle and press firmly. If the tissue comes off well blotted with yellow ink along with others, it means you still have a good amount of yellow ink in it and the nozzle is not blocked. If not blotted or scantily blotted, it means ink is really low or nuzzle is blocked. To be very sure of this, place nuzzle in a plate/saucer with a bit water so that the nuzzle is soaked. Leave for about 10 minutes. Then apply the tissue again. If still not well blotted it means yellow ink is really low or empty. In the case of blocked nozzles, the procedure may be repeated over to get results.

"NO CARTRIDGE" MESSAGE ON BROTHER-425CN

try this:
take all carts out. Unplug machine from power outlet. wait 5 min. leave scanner top open. rplug to power. wait til machine demands carts. reinsert and secure the carts. close cover. answer questions on display. set date and time again in case its not displayed.

If you still receive message use another cart of a diffrent brand. There are many generic carts with bad construction and bad ink out on market.

Best way: refill original brother carts. drill a 2mm hole on top into the brand name (O of brother). refill C/Y/M with a mix of 2ml 85%-glycerol (glycerin alc.) from drugstore and 10ml of DYE ink (shake well before refilling). For BK use 15ml DYE ink mixed with 1.5 ml gylcerol
shke very well before refill.

Wont turn on

sorry! I guess the main circuit board is defective and needs replacing. I ve had a lot of brother machines all about 2.5 years old which had the same problem.
To be honest you will need a new machine due to the fact that the spare part is costly as much as a new mfc!

If you are from europe contact brother hotline of your country. brother warranty in eu is three years!

AF after cleaning cycles??????????????????????????

AF means that the scanner flatcable is not connected to the main pcb (When powering up you should hear a grinding sound from the scanner area). Open the scanner cover as for changing the ink carts. Open the small cover (looks like a " L ") and connect the white flat cable simply by pushing it into the main pcb.
