This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager, and is a known defect for your particular model camera.. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free if you live in the US, Canada, and a select few other countries. If you live outside the US, contact Canon support for your country to see if they'll still honor the advisory (some still will, especially if you stress you knowledge that this is a known defect of the camera). They may also include free shipping both ways (free shipping varies with countries). This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please see this link for more info.

Affected cameras with this problem include: A60, A70, A75, A80, A85, A95, A300, A310, S1 IS, S60, S400, S410, S500, SD100, SD110, IXUS V2/V3/300/400/430/500/II/IIs, IXY Digital 200a/300a/320/400/450/500/30/30a Good luck, and I hope Canon does you right. The A75 takes very nice pictures for a 3MP (one of my all-time favorite cameras), even by today's standards. Hope Canon fixes it for you!

Transferred the pictures from the memory card onto the computer and put card back in. Tried to turn it on, but now the lens is stuck, it didn't open fully, and I need help. It seems to have frozen while...

This would need to be repaired if the lens is stuck so is the shutter. I would take it in and have it looked at. there is no other resetting then what you already have done ot the unit.

Out of focus

There might be a dioptic adjust dial for the viewfinder. Check your manual and if so, look at menu while adjusting until the text is the clearest.

Not turning on and has strange smell

Powershot A640 Could Not Be Powered On, Burnt Smell

My Powershot A640 died during a picture shot, lens remaining open. I thought it may be due to the dead batteries. But after putting new batteries and pushing the on/off button, the on/off indicator blinked once then shut off by itself. After a while, a strange smell came from camera batteries area, and I could feel warm there too. Immediately I took out all the batteries from camera.

When checking the posts here the other day, I tried one solution and got the lens back to close: first took out the memory card from camera, then put the new batteries in; push the on/off button with no memory card. I found the lens retracted a little before camera shut off by itself. I pushed on/off button three times to get the lens fully close. However, the burnt smell came out again. I immediately took out the batteries.
Did I get a short circuit inside? Is there any ways to fix it?

Repair of digital camera

If you see all black in the viewfinder something bad has happened to the lens. It could be stuck, tilted, etc.

It will need to be taken apart and serviced by a trained technician.
