To reset the BIOS please follow the below steps.
1 . Restart your Dell laptop. Click on "Start," "Turn off Computer" and "Restart."
2 . Press "F2" during the boot process to enter the BIOS. Press "F2" before the Windows loading screen. Certain models may use a different key. The key will be displayed during the boot process. For most Dell models, the key is "F2."
3 . Use the "Alt" + "F" key combination to load defaults.
4 . Press "Esc" on your Dell laptop keyboard to save and exit.
5 . Choose the "Enter" key to save all changes and exit the BIOS screen. Allow your laptop to restart for BIOS settings to reset.

If BIOS password is enabled, only way to get rid of it is to perform BIOS reset. Has to be done by BIOS jumper, or some cases removing the CMOS battery.

Update Dell Vostro 1000 BIOS now wont turn on, nothing on display
You may be in for some trouble, a failed bios update isn't always an easy fix. if you can find the cmos battery try to remove that for a few seconds. you will also need a disk version of the bios, download that from dell on another computer and copy it to floppy or cd and see if you can boot to that and reinstall the bios.

when you press the power button what happens, does it light up and run the fan? Nothing appears on the screen?
