I have a Toshiba Satellite M45 S 169 that crashed. I think it is the hard drive because that is where the noise was coming from. The part is an Hitachi Travelstar Model:HTs541080G9AT00 and it is hdd-80gb. Where can I find this part and how can I just insert a new hard drive easily?

If this model Acer has a SATA controller then yes you can, but if it does not have a SATA controller then you can only install a ATA hard drive up to 80 Gb capacity.
This laptop supports Parallel connection for hard drive. Most PATA or Parallel ATA hard drives can only support up to 320Gb. There are some PATA hard drives up to 500gb. To answer your question, there is no problem on how huge the size of the hard drive. Just make sure you get a PATA hard drive. :)
Hi,
Seems like your hard drive is malfunctioning, try another HD. That 80gb is already obsolete and the circuit board might have some defect.
If you could pull out the underside circuit and clean the gold contact points and try it again, if still not working...... buy a new one!
Check also the jumper and cable it must be in the "master" configuration.
According to the specs I found online, that has an Ultra ATA 100 hdd, which is IDE. You should be able to go online and just order a new IDE internal LAPTOP/NOTEBOOK drive (2.5") and drop it in. You'll have to then install the OS.
this solution don;t apply to my problem
