Actually this is a hard drive fault most likely, or a faulty had drive. If you don't have a recovery disk you are going to have to start the machine and try to do a recovery to boot repair. You can usually access this with F10 or F12, not really sure on a gateway.
It is an MBR error on your hard drive at boot up. The only way it can be anything on the motherboard would be you get no splash screen what so ever when you power on, in that case it indicates a burned power circuit and a possibility of something having been spilled into the laptop or it being dropped. You didn't mention any of these conditions so you get a possible solution based on the information you provided. I can not control what information you provide but I can give you a best case scenario based on the information you did provide. Sorry if you don't want to accept that but I can't read minds. I don't make assumptions as they are rarely productive or helpful.
Let me get this straight, You did not respond to the original post but you decided to post a response to my explanation when you have no idea what has been communicated through other contacts I have had with this person. Not only is your comment wrong, it is unprofessional and based on incomplete information. Expect to be contacted by Fixya Expert support for an explanation of your unprofessional conduct if your even an expert. I will be reporting your conduct. I also have this model computer in my house, and have repaired 2 others already with this problem this month. If you want to post a response to someones problem be a professional and post it under your own name.
