IF it wont boot up , how can you tell that the RAM & cpu is working? Is there a problem just with the monitor?

Hi
With that scenario i would recommend you check the front panel assembly where the power button is located and also have you tried to reset the CMOS from the motherboard.

SOURCE: Dell Dimension E510 Wont Boot

How did you determine the power supply is fully functional? Just because the system comes on when you press the power switch, or jumper the "turn-on" pin in the plug to ground, it doesn't mean the outputs are correct. The only sure test of whether the supply is causing problems is to substitute a known good supply as a test.

That said, if the power supply really is good, all that's left is the system board. I have replaced many motherboards that fire up the power supply when you press the power button, but that's all. Take a close look at the filter capacitors on the board, and you might see some that have bulgy or split tops. They are a common source of problems when they go bad. Sometimes you can repair a board by changing out the bad parts, but it's usually more cost-effective just to replace the board. You can often find the original board on eBay these days, or you can purchase a new board that uses the same processor and memory and fits the case.

I'm reading your free manual now on line
it tells you
"amber light - Blinking amber indicates a problem with the power
supply inside the computer. If the system cannot boot and there is
a solid amber light, this indicates a problem with the system board
(see "Power Problems" on page 40)."

E510 no video

This issue can be caused by a number of factors, these are the main ones:
1: The power supply has failed (and if it is a cheap PSU, most likely killed the motherboard too, but, knowing what dell are like, it should be a good PSU in there, so hopefully, no worries there :))
2: RAM the no video can be caused by a defective module, remove or replace any RAM and try again

3: Graphics hardware you may have installed: If the GPU is not correctly seated in its slot, or the cables powering it are loose or the video cable is loose or broke, then remove and/or replace the defecrive part

4: Motherboard: This one is common, sometimes it is easily remedied by replacing some bad capacitors, but if the board is too far gone, then it needs replacing.

5: CPU: This one is very rare, I've ony had one system do this to me, but it is caused by a build up of dust in the heatsink and fan, this causes overheating, and eventually over time, the CPU's performance begins to downfrade until you hear a little pop and that's the end of that, the older dual core CPUs are cheap to get, unlike the Core I7 chip, you can get a new CPU from almost anywhere now, so try this as a last resort as it is the least likely to fail!

and simply, if it does not turn on, check the fuses first, this is the cheapest option of the bunch, and is the easiest as you don't need to pull your PC to pieces to get at the parts!

Can't turn my computer on and i have a yellow blinking light on my dell dimension E510

Do you use a surge protector? If you do, try turning off the power supply to the surge protector and switch on again.
There are a number of causes for this problem, the most likely being a PSU problem or a motherboard fault/failure. To check the power from the PSU to the motherboard, you will need a multimeter to make sure enough power is going to the motherboard. Also check the motherboard closely to see if there is any signs of corrosion or blackened areas, which could be caused by overheating components. Check for leaky or burnt capacitors.

Blinking amber light and wont boot up.

if the power button was blinking amber, unplug your tower, and hold the power button for 30 seconds to 1 minute, to use any excess power stored in the capassitors in the pc. this was told to me by a dell tech, it is a small issue with the 3100=E310, and 5150=E510 Dimension desktops

Dell Dimension E510 will not turn on

It could be.

When you switch on after it has been turned off for a while look at the fan on the PSU as you switch on.

If it spins or tries to spin for a very short time then I would indeed suspect the psu.

If however the psu fan does spin for longer and you can hear any beeps then that would be an indication of a different problem.

Should that be the case then check here.

Steady amber Power light

You are looking at a new mother board. I would take it to a certified technician shop, so they can run a stress test on the motherboard for final benidiction.
