Use the laptop's VGA output to plug into your TV's DVI.

No,this tv is fixable.The video board,that the board,that connected to the CRT (Tv Tube),those round pins holes that connected CRT sockets that hold the CRT(Tv Tube) and the video board together.Resolders those CRT pins sockets that connected on to the video board.Will solved the cold solders connections between the CRT pins sockets and the video board this problems,will be solved.Tries take it to a tv shop,ask them take the tv aparts,resolder the video board CRT pins hole sockets on the video board for you.The priced my guest about $35-40.They must,take tv cover out and resolder the vdieo board CRT pins holes sockets.The whole job,take about 20-30 mins.

Is thiis due to yoru location or a faulty coax connection?:

Sometimes the additoin of a mast head amplifier can improve the picture 100% and it well worth the $100 outlay for this.

But firstly check the coax from wall to set to see if this is the fault, try another TV on it or even to the wall plug th eleiminate cable from mast to wall. All this before spending the $100 on amplifier.
