Display says BLOCKED and DVD tray wont open anyone any ideas

To open the DVD tray: -
1. Remove Power
2. Invert the player, and look for the slot (about 2.5cm long) near the front of the player under the tray.
3. Shine a light into this slot to locate a white plastic lever
4. Insert a plastic blade an slide the lever to the opposite side of its travel, and the tray will start to open
5. Turn the player the right way up and continue to open the tray and remove DVD
NOTE: Depending on what caused the blockage to be reported, they player may or may not revert to normal operation. If like mine there is an underlying fault, then once power is re-applied the fault will still be reported whenever the tray is closed. In this case the motors that operate the tray are inoperative, and I've no didea why. In fact that's what made me read this website. So I hope you have more luck than me.
Regards, D.

MY DVDR3380 TRAY WILL NOT OPEN, SAYS ITS BLOCKED

I had the same "Blocked" problem and solved it - by using a rubber band! Unplug the machine and take off the outer cover. Remove the DVD reader and take off the cover to the reader - you can now easily recover the DVD that was stuck in the machine. Now slide out the actual DVD tray, you will have to bend back a couple of restraining bars to get the tray out completely. You should now see a small white wheel which is actually the end of a concealed electric motor. There will also be a larger black pulley which controls the movement of the DVD tray. If there is no band connecting the pulley and the white wheel, that is your problem and I solved it with a small elastic band. Put everything back and turn on, wait for all the messages to clear and press the eject button - the tray opens simples. It has taught me never to force the tray in manually, but to always use the eject/open button.

The tray on my Phillips DVDR 3380 won't open. It says blocked or no disc. I have pressed open /close many times but to no avail.I have turned the power off, makes no difference. I have press stop when it...

I have the same problem. What I do is push my hand down firmly on top of the DVD Recorder above the tray and while doing this press the open button. If this doesn't work get a screwdriver and poke it into the sides of the tray and pull it away. I find that the first method works best! XD

Hope This Helps!

The tray to my DVD player would not open. It says

Hi there! First of all, what is the brand name of the DVD Player? Don't know what advise you got but here are a few suggestions. The most common would be the little black rubber belt may have snapped or is worn out. This will result in total mechanical failure. The tray opens and closes and the the mech inside also needs to lift to bring the eye to the disc to start reading. If this motion inside does not occur when the tray is closed it can say " bad disc" or "blocked".It may also be a processing fault which in most cases will not be economical to repair. My advise is to first check the belt. Depending on the value of your machine it may be worth referring to a repairer. Regards and good luck, JUS004.

Drawer won't open. Says "blocked".

I had the same problem with a comparable device. It turned out that the drive belt that operates the ejection mechanism wears out or breaks.
To get at it you need to do the following:
1. remove device cover

2. remove the identification cover on the front of the DVD tray. This may be tricky if you can't open the tray. You need to find a way, because otherwise you can't remove the DVD unit, at least not on my unit.
3. remove the DVD unit by detaching the cables and removing four screws.

4. remove the two top screws on the DVD unit
5. remove the front top cover of the DVD unit by pushing the two tabs on the top of the unit, near the front.

6. Now remove the tray, by pulling it out as far as it goes and then pressing two tabs on either side of the tray. These tabs look like this:

7. Now you get at the drive belt. Originally it was black; I replaced it (temporarily) with a red one in the picture below:

8. Now put everything back together.

Blocked dvd tray

The disk inside is most likely jammed. It would be best to take it to a repairman, or you can try to remove it your self.
