A mate of mines imported 125 wont start up with the electric, but WILL start up first time on the kick start. I dont think its the battery (although i could be totally wrong) as he rides it to work everyday. Could anybody please tell me what the problem might be? Thanks

Problem might be the battery and the reason behind it is the starter is taking more power then the battery has and short changes the ignition which requires a minimum of 10 volts to work.

The TTR-125 Carburetor's Run Lean by design. Mine had the same issues till I found a post on Thumpertalk.com on Carb and air box Mod. This is a good starting point on gets; 110 and 112.5 main and 17.5 pilot. But you must check spark plug coloring to make sure the jetting is correct. Check spark plug after the bike has been ridden for a wile. I also took out the stock baffle and replaced it with exhaust tip and now it fires up after a few kicks and worms up in a few minutes.
If the kick-start wont turn then it may well be seized, partially seized if you are lucky. Spray some p.t.f.e. based lubricant down the spark plug hole, leave for 20 mins, then ease kick-start down. If this has no effect then it will need a top-end rebuild ( this could mean just piston rings, but it may well need a new piston & rebore)

iya mate ive just read your artical it could be your starter motor if not has your battery got enough power init to turn the electric start or try the kick start
i think youneed to start the bike with a fully charged battery and the choke open with no throttle and keep turning it over till it stars failing that check the fuel hoses and vacum hoses to the carb
To begin with you will have to check the battery cables if they are properly secured to the battery terminals and tht they are clean and having a good contact.
Locate the solenoid switch of the starter and jump the wires and see if the starter will turn..this switch should be around the battery area or best follow the positive wire of the battery and you may locate it.
Important of all is also to check if the battery ahs 12volts or more!

If your bike starts even for 5 seconds you should investigate your fuel delivery system.Check fuel pump,filter,try spray carb cleaners like Gum Out.Most importantly make sure your choke is working.You got your ignition (spark) it is most likely fuel related.Good Luck.
If your sure that the fuse and battery is fine, then it may be a faulty connection on the ignition...From what you say here though, I would be very suspect of fuse or bad connection to battery...Maybe there is another fuse that you have missed...
