Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

We recently purchased a home. The garage door opener is an older Sears Craftsman model : 139.53635srt1. The previous owners (who lived there about two years I think) did not use the keypad that is installed and have no idea what the previous code was and there is no manual for this unit. Can someone help me change the code? Also, we only had one remote which was not working so I went to the Sears store and was talked into getting the Universal Radio Conversion Kit 953751 with the black button remotes. They claim that this can be used to allow the black button remotes to work with our current motor. Has anyone had luch with this? I

The conversion kit you purchased from Sears will work with any door opener and has the latest security feature but the bad news is your keypad will not work with it. If you want a keypad you must make sure it is 315 mhz and Security +. It would be Sears latest model.

There will be a model number on the opener. Usually on the end closest to the door. With your model number call any Chamberlain dealer listed in your yellow pages. They would love to help you.

How do I program a Craftsman Wireless keypad for Chamberlain garage door opener? I purchased the home and the former owner does not remember the code.

Make sure the battery is good in the keypad.

Is there a univeral remote for craftsman garage door openers?
Depends on the age of the opener. The model number is on the end of the opener closest to the door. Using it go to Sears parts and you can find out if the remote is still available.

This is rental property and the previous tenents lost the remotes and the owner can't remerber the wireless key pad code, or find the owner onfo, but the new tenents want to remotely open the garage door,...
I would pick up a universal one. You can get them at sears for about 30 bucks. A factory one would cost the same, and the universal one will work two seperate doors.

Older model keyless will not open new craftsman garage opener.
inside or on the back of the opener motor housing or sometimes on a remote receiver (an external box connected to the motor unit and a push button) is a set of switches ... if you take your opener apart you should also see a set of switches ... those have to be set the same way as the opener ... thats the code select ... make sure the battery is ok .. you can check with sears to see if your older remote is compatable ..

Either your car or your door opener is an older model and they are not compatible. Hopefully it is the opener that is older.

Wring sensors
whites together under 2nd screw, grays together under 3rd screw. both indicator lights (normally LED's) on the eyes (1 each) must be lit in order to operate. this is the basic set-up...if you give me your model number from the opener, I should be able to find a owners/users manual for the unit
