I suddenly heard alot of distortion when playing the Pioneer PL-990 turntable. Wonder if replacing the needle may take care of the problem.

Depends on the circumstances. Is it only when you play it loud? Air- or room-borne vibrations will feed back through the TT to the speakers. Keep the volume down to avoid it.

If you call the stylus a 'needle', replacing it maybe beyond your capabilities. There are lots of reasons for TT sound to be less than perfect and arbitrarily replacing things can do more harm or introduce new problems. Take it to someone experienced and equipped to evaluate the issue.

Tonearm balance, antiskating, dirty stylus, feedback.

About 11 months ago I bought an Elliptical upgrade stylus for the PL-990 and it worked great. Recently, it started giving me problems. The left channel would be very distorted and also would fade in and...

Very odd! Sounds like it's not fitting in right. Are you sure that you have the right type of stylus for the cartridge? If in doubt replace the entire cartridge & Stylus. If it still plays up then it's in your amp after that course of action.

I have Pioneer pl202az record player.. need help finding to replace the broken needle..

It is seldom worth just replacing a needle. It's not much more expensive to replace the whole cartridge. Easily available online - search by make and model number on Amazon

I haven't used the turntable for some time. Recently I tried to use it and it is terribly distorted. Carefully cleaned and inspected I tried another amplifier with the same result, cartridge faulty?

You will have to remove the spindle by easing out the horseshoe clip or otherwise remove the screws that hole it together to get to the rubber bands that turn the turntable and clean them with a little rubbing alchol and a clean paper towel or q-tip.

Trouble with sound

Confirm that the stylus you bought is spec'd out for that turntable
Also check all four wires to the cartridge
