I too received the System Error (0e01) and my solution was too easy. With my Exilim Ex-Z40 I replaced the SD card with another and the camera worked just fine.

System error 0e01 displayed o the screen of ex-s100

if you google error code it seems to be a corrupt operating system in camera and looks like you need a firmware update from casio or if someone has the download to update camera-seems to be a pretty common problem-email casio w/code and see what they say!

Casio exilim ex-z55 lens gear problem

You may be lucky like me .My wife turned on the Casio Lens down and got same problem as you.
I dismantled the front face of camera to gain access to the lens system and found that one of the plastic sprockets had its teeth slightly twisted!I managed to straightened these carefully with a knife and now Casio good as new....zoom also working perfectly.
This is an easy fix and from what I hear people are giving up on an out of warranty camera, when in fact they maybe abke to easily fix it themselves.
I dont mind helping anyone ...my email is [email protected].

Need help

Error messages seen at power-on if not caused by the memory card are generally related to the lens assembly either being jammed or malfunctioning. We do not see many Casio cameras here in my shop but I can say that statement applies to these kind of cameras in general. Hold the camera close to your ear when you power it on. Do you hear a series of different sounds, or do you hear chattering or repeating sounds? Perhaps no sounds at all? David Millier Advance Camera Repair

Casio ex-z55

Seen a few of these, with no apparent fix. regarding the 0e01 error, I heard it really got fixed by a firware update. A firmware update is not available through the casio site though, not for your model. Try taking out the batteries for 24 hours, the SD card aswell, and when you put back the bats(use good NimHs), don't put back the card. See what happens. Also try connecting to electricity through the adapter. What about warranty? have you contacted casio? Do they have anything usefull to say or are they only qualified to answer the phone and offer you a 200 $ repair/replacement? Good luck
