It sounds like the oil neds topping up as when you release the gas it will release the pressure causeing the light to come on, if the pressure is low then the top of the engine will not be getting enough oil. if the oil is topped up and this problem is still there then it sounds like the oil pump is not working to 100%

Hope that helps

Dan

Check your oil level if full at the full level line on dip stick you might consider changing your oil pressure switch. When these get really bad you will start to see oil spots under car when you pull away.

but is it hurting the engine? the manual book says to not drive while the light is on

  • John Jon Dec 27, 2010

As mentioned you should have your oil pressure switch replaced these cars are famous for it along with Chrysler's ,Neon, sebring, stratus, etc.Of coarse it is not ever a good idea to drive your car when you know something is wrong especially if your can is telling you such as your is doing now. However as i i mentioned when these start getting really bad they start to leak you will see oil spots under your car when you part and start it.Any real hurt to the motor well it is the blood pressure of the engine.

04 gmc sierra, quad cab 4x4,front brake locked up and abs light came on,brakes were smoking

Hey Cameron - Usually (Not a Law) it would mean the Caliper is seized. There is a caliper piston - when you press the brake, that piston pushes out, forcing the brake pads to put pressure on the rotor. Your brake fluid is hydraulic fluid - when you take your foot off the brake/it retracts the caliper piston releasing the tension.
There are definitely other things it could possibly be - but if you can get the brake line OFF the caliper housing (attached to the wheel's rotor/where your wheel studs come out of), there will not be any more pressure. I would recommend disconnecting the brake line and applying a penetrant oil to the housing/anywhere you can spray it. (((tip of the day - spray it with brake cleaner first. Douse it. Brake Cleaner - stronger the better - is a very strong solvent - it breaks rust up extremely well, believe it or not - the only downfall is it drys fast - leaving the material open for more corrosion/the remedy - try some brake fluid, let it dry off, then hit it with a good penetrating oil - Get Some, one work search for that. Really effective and non-toxic. Once it's soaked and the brake line is off - leave the caliper in place and see if you can get the piston to go back in enough to get the retaining bolts off and get it off the rotor. E bay is awesome for used parts - but I have a code for Advance Autos coast to coast that isn't advertised that would really help out if you chose to replace new. On some calipers - you can rebuild them (new caliper piston and o-rings that seal the components) but usually a used caliper off of E bay with free shipping is cheaper than the kit. Just an FYI.

Here's the standard procedure (see below).

I've seen a locked caliper more than once. The piston usually gets corrosion in between itself and the cylinder it slids in and out of. Eventually leading to a seized caliper piston either open (when you're lucky) or upon coming to a stop - it will fail to release and go back in. If you get any other information contact me and I'll gladly advise to the best of my ability.

Brake light on Honda is being wierd

I have a couple of answers for you. First you need to open the f brake fluid container on your car and make sure you have enough fluid becouse the sensor for low fluid is in the container and if it is just a little low it can cause this issue. If it is all the way full then the level switch in the cointainer is bad. There could be one other problem the switch in your emergencie brake is bad.
Second disconect the battery for 30 mins and the maintance light will most likely go off but doing this will reset everything in your car. Clocks, radio everything

2004 Doge Ram 2500 5.7 Hemi 190K mile had oil pressure gauge drop to ZERO and check gauges light come on and engine shut down.. Check oil 1 guart low, add oil. let cool. crank up, good gauges drove home 45...

If the valve lifters are quiet you most likely have oil pressure even with gauge showing "0".Sounds like the oil pressure switch going bad.I would try that first.

Oil pressure guage pushes to 80 when not idling.

In an engine in good condition, oil pressure is a function of RPM. Higher rpm, higher pressure. Whne coasting downhill, in gear, the engine rpm will increase, hence, the oil pressure will go up, as required, and as expected.

There is nothing wrong with your engine, unless the oil pressure goes excessively high under any regime. Low oil pressure is a sign of low rpm, or under load, a sign of worn parts.

Car starts to stop by itself when foot is not on pedal.

Time to see your dealer's service department unless this a feature of the car. Has it always been this way since new? It is shifting itself to first gear which would certainly slow the car down.

Idles rough when coasting

Have you checked all the vacuum pipes around the top of the engine.?
It`s not losing oil pressure, it`s just about to stall when the oil light comes on.
Listen for a hissing noise under the hood.
Vacuum leaks can cause real problems with the inlet manifold pressures.
Good luck.
