Our kitchen aid double oven has now been asking us to plug in our temperature probe temp when we never were using a temperature probe. We cannot get away from that screen. We have tried every button and plugged in the temperature probe to unplug it so that we can get the oven working. It is our big family get together today and we still have yet to finish the turkey. Please help!

Make sure there is not food residue on the probe jack, it will ground the jack and make the control "think" the probe is in use. You can also send the control in to be refurbished... the solder joints on all of these machines are failing badly by now...
Here a list of Whirpool oven fault codes. The codes had been collected from different service manuals. This was a memo that I wrote for my own use. I think this can be useful to owners and technicians.
WHIRLPOOL - most models Range/Stove and Oven Fault Codes, Common error codes.
F1 - Analog control board Failure Disconnect for one minute - if error comes back, replace control board F1 - Shorted control keypad Replace keypad F3 - Oven temperature sensor open Replace oven temperature probe F2 - Oven temperature sensor shorted Replace oven temperature probe F3 - Oven too hot Replace oven temperature probe F3 - Clean temperature too hot Replace oven probe F5 - Door latch switch fault Test and replace the door switch.
Whirlpool with 4 Digit Failure Code:
F1 - E1 - Electronic control (flip flop) Replace control board F2 - E0 - Shorted control keypad Replace keypad F3 - E0 - Oven temperature probe open Replace temperature probe F3 - E1 - Oven temperature probe shorted Replace temperature probe F3 - E2 - Oven temp too high Replace temperature probe F3 - E3 - Clean temp too hot Replace temp. probe F5 - E0 - Check door latch F5 - E1 - Check door latch Replace switch if defective
WHIRLPOOL Polara models 5 digit codes:
F1 F0 - EEPROM communication error Replace ERC F1 E1 - EEPROM checksum error Replace ERC F1 E2:7 - UL A/D errors Replace ERC F1 E4:2 - Model ID error Reinsert keytail. F1 E6:0 - Latch signal mismatch error Replace ERC F2 E0:4 - Shorted key error Replace keypad assembly F2 E1:3 Keytail unplugged reinsert the keytail F3 E0:5 Top oven sensor open Test and replace top probe. F3 E1:6 Top oven shorted Test and replace temp probe F3 E2:9 Bake range over temperature Test and replace temp probe F3 E3:8 Clean range over temperature Test and replace temp probe. F3 E4:10 Bottom oven sensor open Test and replace temp probe F3 E:15 Bottom oven sensor shorted Test and replace temp probe F5 E0:14 Door switch errot Test and eventually replace door lock switch F5 E1:16 Door latch not operating Test and eventually replace door latch F8 E0:17 Refrigeration error Test the cooling module. PF Power failure - Does not indicate a fault. PF occurs when power is disconnected.
WHIRLPOOL Models SF3, 30'' and 24"
F2 - Oven temperature above specifications Check 8-pin connector from temp. probe to Electronic Oven Control F3 - Open oven temperature probe failure Check wiring, replace oven probe if necessary F4 - Shorted oven temperature sensor failure Check wiring harness, replace oven temperature probe if necessary F5 - Push button stuck or faulty Check for binding of pushbuttons and control panel glass. If OK, replace touch panel F6 - Electronic control logic error (timing) Replace Electronic Range Control (ERC) F7 - Electronic control logic error (lock motor) Replace ERC. F8 - Electronic control logic error Replace ERC.
It is asking for the temperature that you want the meat to be. Example if you want your meat to have a medium doneness then usually it is 150F. You would enter 150. The probe will beep when the meat has reached that temperature

1. Test
operation of door lock on self-clean models 2. Test relay contact operation 3. High resistance in oven temperature sensor
F3
F4 Meat probe shorted 1. Disconnect meat probe and measure probe resistance (78kω at 60° F [15.6° C], 37kω at 90° F [32.2° C]). 2. If resistance is not valid replace probe. 3. Insert probe and check for a firm connection between probe and jack (in oven cavity). 4. Check connection between jack and harness (in rear of oven).
It sounds like the probe jack may be bad or the wiring between the jack and the control board above.
Common Problem, design defect allows moisture or corrosion on terminals, to cause this problem. Two ways of repairing this. 1: Plug probe in, hang probe out the door, input 160 degree probe temp, turn convection bake to 450 degrees and let it bake for a while. Turn unit off, unplug probe and test to see if the problem is resolved. If it is moisture, the high heat bakes out the moisture and resolves the issue. We have also had some luck with a hair dryer blowing on the probe receptacle to dry out the receptacle. 2: You can pull the entire unit out of the wal with the power off at the circuit breaker, remove the backing panel, and disconnect the wiring to the probe. Some units you have to remove a side panel instead. You won't be able to use the probe in the future if you do this, and you do have to insulate the wires terminals or plug. As always, if you don't know what you are doing with electricity, call a technician to do this repair, it is better to be safe. Also as an aside, I work on all brands of ovens and we find that the Kitchen Aid models have the fewest repairs and the greatest reliability, everybody has design defects and most of the other brands have deliberately built in these defects for faster replacement. The only advice on the Kitchen Aid units that I recommend is that when you do replace it that you buy a separate oven and seperate microwave oven. Most microwave ovens are only lasting 8 to 15 years before major repairs, yet the ovens last 30 to 40 years. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists
cobrapilot sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Some where in the oven the contacts going to the oven probe are closing. This could be wiring going to the probe missing insulation and hitting the sheet metal, or the probe socket itself closed. I usually see this after the unit is in use, not right after install. Have you tried to cook a roast or such in the probe mode to see if it will work? For the oven may work just fine then. You are correct about your last line, until service resolves this issue, you have just an expensive microwave. Also as a side note, be sure an be there when the tech showes up. They may just try to say we need a part and not actually attempt to fix your unit. I am not sure what area you are in, however try Olson Appliance Service, He has a website, he is authorized Kitchen Aide service and maybe he can help.
Yes and no the reason they ask you to cut them is the lenght of the wire does affect some of the probes (thermistor) it reads resistence and the longer the wire the more it will read if you want it to be for sure your model is this type do it the right way and pull the oven if you want to cut it in place then try the oven like that if you are happy with the temps then leave it the reason the wire wont pull out the is a zip strap holding it in the wire bundle behind the back wall.Hope this helps
