1) There's a difference between "support" and play directly of video mp3 player.
2) It's not just about the format, but also screen size and resolution.

You need to run the music through the converter tool that is on the player itself (like a portable dirve, look into it's directories) or as a small CD that came in the player's kit.

I have just bought an Icoustic 8GB touchscreen media player and had the same problem with videos from my PC so I imported them into windows movie maker and used the save as option for portable device or mobile phone, it makes a smaller file and the videos played with no problems.

The format error is a problem with your media player only being able to play certain types of media. Your media player plays only AMV video formatted files. The solution to this problem is to convert the videos you want to watch to the AMV file format before putting them on your player.
You need to download a converter: http://www.amvvideoconverter.netThen convert the files to AMV files.Then you add them to your media player as you normally would.
This SHOULD work.

Try to download this free Amv converter software from here:

http://www.dvd-creators.net/amv-converter.html

You will find more software there but you need only the one is located on the bottom of the page.
Then decompress the Amv_Convert_400.zip to a separated folder and install the program.

Can you download movies to it?
It list in the specifications the only video that is supported is in the format of amv.
The description if amv is - Compressed video format used by Chinese portable media players; typically saved in low resolutions (from 94x64 to 160x120) to fit the screens of the media players; can usually be played on a PC using the software included with the portable media player. Not sure what good that is. Hadn't never heard of it before.

Ok lets look at your mp player. Name brand and model, what do you have? Some players do not have to have media player to put files onto your player. You can use media player to convert most sound files to MP3's, but if you are downloading MP3 files you can copy straight in to your player's music folder and play the files. Does your player hook up to the computer as a "portable device" or as a removable drive? If it hooks up as a removable drive you are set to go with copy and paste. If it hooks up as portable device you need to check in the players settings and look for USB settings and see if you can set it for MSC mode. repost if need more info.
