Copy this into a text file named "sonyscanners.inf" and then manually point to it as the correct driver in device manager for your scanner and it'll all work like magic again. Forget using a virtual machine...not needed. I use this for both the Dimage IV and 5400 Elite in Windows 7 64-Bit.

It's possible there are no drivers running under W 7 for this remarkable unit and it's a shame .
If you have the W XP install disc , you could install a virtual version of W XP on your HDD .
You could also partition your HDD and install W XP on the new one .
Otherwise ... trashbin . Yes , life is hard .
