SOURCE: When I try to play
Format error means that you are not playing the file extension which is supported by your mp3 player ,it should be .mp3 extension.
for eg if your song name is let the music play.it should be as let the music play.mp3
if you are unable to see .mp3 extension
goto my computer>tools>folder option >view tab > uncheck "hide extension for know file types".
if you have any problem .just reply with a comment so that i can help you further
Good luck
thanks for using fixya

hi
from when i first bought mine...
does it show as an MP3 player or MTP device, if it is the second one you'll need to do some tinkering in the settings. the instructions for this are in the small manual [no really]. It'll then behave normally.
Otherwise MTP devices require you to put files on in a different (and slightly arcane) way they also may need to be 'official' DRM files rather than CD-rips

hope this helps in some way and does not confuse
