I cleaned the coils real good last week trying to solve the problem. I took the bottom covers off front and back and cleaned everything under the fridge.

ok i just read the last post. I dont know what you are suppose to be doing to help me, but you just gave me a long list of things to just start checking. If i just wanted to start checking everything i could do that by myself. I figure I would get to the solution finaly. I was looking more for specific help not just start going through everything?

The food in the refrigerator freezes This is a common problem that often doesn't have a clear, permanent solution. The first thing to check is the overall internal refrigerator temperature (see the Appliance Accessories section for a refrigerator/freezer thermometer). The proper temperature should be between 35 and 42 degrees. Here are some things to try:

  • If your refrigerator temperature is closer to 35 degrees, try turning the temperature up slightly.

  • If you find that the temperature varies a lot from the top shelf to the bottom (where it is coldest), try putting produce and other sensitive products on a higher shelf.

  • If the temperature is too low and you can't make it warmer by adjusting the thermostat, you probably have a defective thermostat. If so, you need to replace it, because they cannot be repaired. Other possible problems are a leak in the sealed (refrigerant) system, cold air migration (in side-by-side models) or a defective air damper. These problems can be quite difficult to locate and correct, we recommend you contact a qualified appliance repair technician.

Hi

Sounds like a faulty compressor start circuit, or thermostat letting you down. Time to get a fridgy out to have a look at it. There is not alot that can be done about these things by the layman. Good luck, thanks for using FixYa

HI,

First, check to see if the light comes on or if there is any fan, motor, or other sound coming from the appliance? If so, the refrigerator isn't really completely stopped--go to the specific problem you are having. If not, try adjusting the thermostat to a colder setting. If that doesn't work, read on.

Second, check to see if there is power getting to the refrigerator. To do that, plug a lamp or other device into the same outlet the refrigerator is plugged into. If there's no power, check the fuses or circuit breakers. If the fuses or breakers aren't the problem, contact a qualified electrician to restore power to the outlet.

If there is power to the appliance but it still seems to be stopped, there may be a problem in one or more of these:

  • Wiring

  • Thermostat

  • Defrost timer

  • Compressor

  • Overload and/or relay

Kenmore Coldspot EM5119829. The Freezer works

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp

or..
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Refrigerator not cool, freezer ok

Either the freezer continues to freeze up (most likely due to low refrigerant, due to a leak), or there is an obstruction between the freezer and the refrigerator (refrigerators get their cooling from the freezer).

Given that it works after you defrost it, I'm going with low gas. Call a professional to see if the leak can be fixed. If the unit is more than 10 years old, just get a new one.

Kenmore coldspot 106.54563300 is not cooling. First the freezer stopped cooling then the fridge stopped. The fan is still working. Pulled fridge out, compressor was very hot. Is this a relay problem? If...

Not good news, it sounds like a compressor problem. Vacuum clean everthing you can safely get to in order to make it eaiser for the repair guy, (hopefully to save money). How old is the fridge?

After moving coldspot, quit cooling

I may need you ask you to do or answer a few question as we try to resolve the problem with your refrigerator. After trying to move fridge a few feet did you lay it down on side? Are lights on interior working? Is receptacle that you plugged the fridge into working properly? Have you changed the t-stat settings? Please check your model number again because I am unable to pull it up. Thanks, Sea Breeze
