Someone has accidentally turned the Close Caption Text mode on. Go into your menu locate the closed caption section and just navigate to turn it off and that's it.... sometimes the remote may have it on there labeled CC.
Sounds like a closed caption box or a pip box, if not try all the buttons on the remote one by one and lastly try to reset to factory settings if the option is present in menu settings.
My parent's JVC did this as well. It took us a little while to solve it (and through searching for how to fix it, found this post).
Using the JVC's remote control, we pushed the C.C. (closed caption) button and cycled to the "OFF" setting. That fixed it. Using the TV's front panel setting did not fix the issue, we had to use the remote control.
Note: the "text" CC setting re-displays the black box.
The black box is called a text box and it is a selection in the
closed caption feature or CC......go thru each menu page until
you find CC....cycle thru choices until you get to off or try each selection until Text box and CC are off.................T.
