Theft Deterrent Arm/Disarm Modes
Important: Although mode 2 provides increased security, the content theft deterrent system disarms only by pressing unlock on the keyless entry transmitter. This can pose a problem if the keyless entry transmitter is damaged, lost, or inoperative for any reason while you attempt to disarm the content theft deterrent system.
Mode 1: The system arms when you lock the doors with the keyless entry transmitter. The system disarms when you unlock the left front, right front, or liftgate door with the key or the keyless entry transmitter. The system does not arm when you lock the doors with a power door lock switch.
Mode 2: The system arms when you lock the doors with the keyless entry transmitter. The system disarms when you unlock the doors with the keyless entry transmitter. The system does not disarm when you unlock the doors with the key.
Mode 3: The system arms when you lock the doors using a power door lock switch or the keyless entry transmitter. The system disarms when you unlock the left front, right front, or liftgate door with the key or the keyless entry transmitter.
Changing the Feature Customization Modes
Turn off the IP dimmer switch.
Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
Remove the BCM PRGRM fuse.
Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position. The BCM flashes the fasten belts indicator and sounds the chime 4 times, which indicates that BCM type 4 is installed on the vehicle. At this point, the BCM has entered the feature customization mode.
In order to change the theft deterrent/shock sensor mode, turn the headlamp switch from OFF to PARK and back to OFF.
The BCM flashes the fasten belts indicator and sounds the chime a number of times equivalent to the theft deterrent/shock sensor mode. A transition past mode 4 repeats the sequence starting with mode 1.
Complete the following steps in order to change the theft deterrent arm/disarm mode:
6.1.
Insert the key in the left front, right front, or liftgate door lock cylinder.
6.2.
Rotate the key from the center to the unlock position.
6.3.
Press the horn button on the remote keyless entry transmitter.
6.4.
Count the number of chimes that you hear. The number of chimes tells you which mode you have set.
6.5.
Press the horn button again in order to change the mode. Continue to press the button until you hear the number of chimes that indicates the mode that you want.
6.6.
Turn the key back to the center position and remove the key from the door key cylinder.
In order to exit and save the current feature customization modes use the following procedure:
Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
Reinstall the BCM PRGRM fuse.
If you are unable to change locking modes Theft Deterrent System Feature Customization Inoperative
Important: All transmitters which are to be recognized by the remote control door lock transmitter (RCDLR) must be programmed in a single programming sequence. If the system is placed in program mode it will erase all previously programmed transmitters upon the receipt of the programming signal from the first transmitter. Up to four transmitters can be programmed. Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry program mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle.
Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
Close all of the doors.
Remove the MALL PGM fuse from the fuse block.
Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder.
Turn the ignition to ACC.
The body control module (BCM) will perform the following in order to identify the type of BCM installed in the vehicle:
?€¢
Flash the seat belt indicator 1, 2, or 3 times.
?€¢
Chime 1, 2, or 3 times.
Turn the ignition to OFF, and then back to ACC within 1 second.
The BCM may begin to chime and flash diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). If the BCM has stored any DTCs, refer to Diagnostic System Check - Body Control System in Body Control System.
Open and then close any vehicle door.
The BCM will chime in order to confirm that the programming mode has been entered.
Press and hold the transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for approximately 14 seconds.
Important: After approximately 7 seconds the BCM will chime once to confirm that synchronization has been completed. After approximately 14 seconds the BCM will chime a second time to confirm that the programming has been completed.
Repeat the previous step in order to program each additional transmitter.
Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
Install the MALL PGM fuse into the fuse block.
Operate the functions of each transmitter in order to verify correct system operation.
You are in luck, a 2005 Ford Five Hundred Key Fob Remote is self programmable. Now these procedures can be a bit frustrating at times, so be patient, it's all about timing. If you get it programmed on the first try you are among a very few talented programming individuals! Also, if you need an affordable key fob replacement for your Ford Five Hundred, buy it here: https://www.keylessentryremotefob.com/Ford-Five-Hundred-Remotes-and-Keys-s/5167.htm
Here are the programming instructions:
FORD REMOTE - THIS PROCEDURE RESETS ALL REMOTES FOR THE VEHICLE. ALL FUNCTIONING REMOTES WILL HAVE TO BE REPROGRAMMED DURING THE PROCEDURE There are a few different procedures that will program your remotes depending on what vehicle that you have. You can find your exact procedure in your owners manual. If you do not have your owners manual you can try any of the procedures below until you find the one that works for your vehicles
Make sure that you don't press the brake pedal at any time during or before the procedure.
Procedure A:
1.Close all doors, then open drivers door and press the Unlock button on driver's door while it is open, insert key into ignition.
2.Turn ignition from OFF to RUN 8 times within 8 seconds, with the 8th time ending in RUN. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming mode. (if the door locks do not cycle, then it was done incorrectly. You must start over by removing key and beginning from step 1)
(Off is the position where you can remove your key, RUN is the position just shy of starting your car.)
3.Within 10 seconds press any button on the first keyless remote to be programmed. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming. If you only have one remote then skip to step 5.
4.Within 10 seconds, press any button on the second keyless remote. Door locks will cycle again to confirm programming. Repeat step 4. for all other remotes.
5.Turn ignition to OFF. Locks will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.
*If this does not work try the procedure with the door closed.
Procedure B:
1. Fasten seatbelt and close all doors
2. Turn the ignition from OFF to RUN 4 times within 3 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition OFF. The system will chime to confirm programming mode.
4. Within 10 seconds, press and hold any button on first keyless remote. The system will chime once to confirm programming.
5. Within 10 seconds, press and hold any button on second keyless remote. System will chime once to confirm programming.
6. Turn ignition to RUN to exit programming mode.
Please note: All steps should be performed in fairly rapid succession. If you never get the initial chime or door lock cycle, that means the vehicle has never entered programming mode. You should remove key from ignition, open and close the door and start over.
If you're talking about the alarm, it's in the programming. There are 4 modes, depending on your model.
Mode 2 has delayed illumination, auto door lock, last door close/lockout detterent
Mode 3 has all those plus remote driver's door unock
Mode 4 adds the remote lock/unlock confirmation, content theft, content theft arming/disarming
Enter progam mode by

2. Close the driver's door.
3. Turn the ignition key towards you, to ACC
4. Count the number of chimes you hear. You will hear two to four chimes depending on the features your vehicle is equipped with.
You are now in program mode...
With the content theft-deterrent system, if anyone damages or enters your vehicle whie the system is armed, the horn will shound and your parking lamps will flash for two minutes. The content theft shock sensor detects if anyone damages your vehicle. The shock sensors sensitivity can be adjusted by your dealer if more or less sensitivity is desired.
Mode 1: damage detection w/ reduced sensitivity
Mode 2: damage detection off (alarm only sounds when door is opened)
mode 3: feature off
mode 4: damage detection with Normal sensitivity
To change modes, enter the program mode, turn the parking lamps on and off, count the number of chimes you hear, that is which mode your vehicle is in. you can change the mode by turning the parking lamps on and then off again. Repeart turning lamps on/off untill you hear the numer of chimes you want.
