Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook

1 Answer

My Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop screen suddenly went black when I was using the laptop. It went completely dead. I have tried connection the adapter to a different power outlet, disconnected and reconnected the AC adapter,Removed and put in the battery again. But nothing works. When I press the power button no indicator light comes on. Infact the green light on the power adapter goes off. What is wrong ? How Can I solve this problem.

I dont think you understood the problem. The computer does not switch on at a;; on pressing the power button , neither with battery nor with AC adapter plugin. So how do I perform the steps you have suggested?

Thanks for all the tips. Nothing worked. I had my laptop examined and repaired by a trained technician. The problem was in the mother board. It has been repaired and the machine is switching on now and working.

Hi there,

Follow the below steps it would fix your issue.

Method 1: First you need to try safe mode and check if you are able to boot to the desktop.
Follow this below provided link to start your computer in safe mode.
Advanced startup options including safe mode
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode
Method 2:
If you are able to boot into safe mode then in order to troubleshoot this issue further, you may unplug all the external devices except keyboard and mouse and check if you are able to boot to the desktop.

Method 3: If the above provided steps don't resolve the issue then, I would recommend you perform startup repair.
Follow these steps:

To perform a Startup Repair follow the steps below:

a. Please insert the Windows 7 DVD and reboot the computer.
b. When we are prompted to press a key to boot from the DVD, please press Enter or the space bar.
c. Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
d. Click Repair your computer.
e. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
f. On the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair. Startup Repair might prompt you to make choices as it tries to fix the problem, and if necessary, it might restart your computer as it makes repairs.

my apologize sir, i am so sorry for that and i am sure this wont happen again.
When did you buy your laptop? Is it under warranty? Contact your Hardware Vendor. This would help you. I suspect its a problem with the hardware.

From a search on google and looking at friend's and relatives around me, it seems like the Inspiron 1501 was programmed to fail in December 2010 on the power side. You can check with your customer protection agency right away since Dell did not reply much on that issue. At best you will end up with a laptop which only work with AC in without battery.

Do a hard reset by turning off the computer and removing the battery and unplug the AC adapter. Without any power source, press and hold the power button and put everything back after. Power on the computer again, if it does not work, try to connect your laptop to an external monitor. If it shows some display it means that the LCD monitor of your laptop has gone faulty.

The inspiron has known issues with overheating and heatsink fan issues.. Contact dell tech support if under warranty or just buy a new motherboard cause yours is probably dead now.

For the first problem, try reseating the memory and the battery, see if any thing happens if you leave the battery out and plugged in using the AC adapter only.
Good Luck.

For the second problem, try removing the battery for about 10 minutes then after installing the battery power up and see if the display if full again, if so grate, if not, you will probably need to have a tech fix it, as either the display is bad or maybe the connector inside the laptop became loose and should only be repaired by a qualified technician.
Good Luck.

DELL INSPIRON 1000

Try the following:

1. Try to boot the notebook with both battery and adaptor attached.

2. Try to boot with ONLY the battery.

3. Try to boot with ONLY the adapter.

If you can't boot with only the adapter, the adapter has died. If you can't boot with only the battery, the battery is dead.

But as stated above, make sure your battery is sufficiently charged.

In case of a dead battery or adapter, check whether the device is still under warranty. Contact HP if so.

Let me know what you found out.

Greetings,

DarkNeogen
