Hello! When I attach the flash on my Nikon D200, it fires even while I'm focusing or just when I touch the trigger button. Any ideas? The flash is not firing like that while not on the camera.

The flash on the camera is being used to throw light for the lens to focus, unless the flash has a setting / the camera has a setting to fix this.... I would assume this as a normal behaviour.

Just to be sure that i'm thinking the same lines as you - your flashes that happen while focusing will be short bursts and when you take the final image you still have a significantly higher powered flash.

Sb800 firing without pressing shutter release

sounds like a short in one of the circuit boards, most likely one or seveal of the ribbons and boards will need to be replaced to correct the problem. Send in for repair expect to pay up to $200 for a Nikon factory overhaul

Intermittent D200 malfunction

Try cleaning the contacts on the camera body and the lens where they meet with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

Vivitar 285 HV won't fire

If you know basic soldering, Open the old hot shoe from base
(4 screws).Note down the position of the wires.
Try to fire the flash with shorting two trigger wires, most ly it will fire.
If the springy contact is adjustable do it.If it is not repairable, you can get metal hot shoe from ebay easily.
Caution: metal hot shoe will short circuit 4 TTL contacts (on digital camera) ,so you need to put cello tape at bottom of hot shoe with only center hole.
Hope this solves.

Unwanted flash fire in nikonD200

Hi, I had the same sort of problem. It started with erratic small flashes but then evolved to the SB-800 not regonizing the D200 at all. The result of this is that I only get TTL and not TTL+BL+FP functionallity.
To solve this I cleaned the hotshoe on the D200 with all purpose cleaner for electical appliances (CRC 5-56). This gave minor improvment. Then I adjusted the spings to the left and right on the hotshoe on the D200 to press harder against the flash's connection (which I suppose is the grounding). Now everything works again.

Best regards,

Marcus

D200 compatibility ?

Hello,

Metz says yes: Metz

Certainly Nikon will say no. I would double check the fit of the shoe on the camera. The pins on the flash should be springy to the touch.

Nikon SB600 flash behaving strangely

I have sent my SB-600 to Nikon twice in the past 6 months to resolve this problem. They have fixed it both times, but never told me what the problem was. I've had it back for exactly 1 day now, and it's started back up again already. If I receive a solution (or replacement), I'll let you know!
