Yes. Find a Lionel repair shop or bring it to a local hobby store that does model train repairs. You can contact Lionel for a list of repair shops.

SOURCE: My new Lionel CW-80 trans former stopped working

I did the same thing as brian-sw. Opened the unit, removed the old in-line fuse and added an external fuse holder to make it easier to replace in the future. Transformer is difficult to open unless you have the triangular security screw driver. Security bits can be purchase from Harbor Freight but you will need to adapt them to fit into the channels where the screws are recessed. It certaintly would have been nice if Lionel installed an external fuse or circuit breaker. Guess they didn't want to loose the repair business.

Answer a number of questions:
Is the tranformer power adequate for the train and is it a working tranformer?
Will the train run by connecting the wires directly to the two points of the train (wheels and center rail connector)?
Are the tracks new?
Is the lockon new?

SOURCE: Need help setting up Lionel North Pole Central

I had the same dilema and trains are not new to me. Look under the piece of straight track that has a notch in it for the wiring. There will be a clip to hold the wire and a piece of plactic that looks like a block. One either side of that is a metal tab that one end of the wiring slides over. Actually each piece of the Fastrack has one of these. Only one has a notch but you can notch any one.

SOURCE: WE are trying to get our lionel holiday train

There is no on/off switch. Remote will give no indication of working. Try putting engine and coal car only and try. I have had this train set for two years and the remote tends to work whenever it wants.

SOURCE: Need Z4000 transformer (trains) manual

We were able to locate a Z4000 transformer manual. Found out our problem was a connection problem with the track and not a problem with the transformer. Thanks anyway.

I got a ZW transformer as a gift, bought at an auction. The left side doesn't get any power and the right side I cannot control the speed. Can this be fixed?

Hello, Don -

I hope I am correct you are asking about a Lionel ZW transformer for electric model trains.

I am personally not familiar with the transformer. However, I have found some information on the internet which may prove informative to you.

See:
https://dfarq.homeip.net/all-about-the-lionel-zw/

Plus, I found 3 PDF documents which are a series about repairing Lionel ZW transformers:
http://www.agtta.com/Tech-Tips/Tech-tip-ZW-repairs1.pdf
http://www.agtta.com/Tech-Tips/Tech-tip-ZW-repairs2.pdf
http://www.agtta.com/Tech-Tips/Tech-tip-ZW-repairs3.pdf

For the 3 PDF documents you will need Adobe Reader software (free) to open, download, save to your Documents folder, and print.

Assuming I am correct that you mean a Lionel ZW transformer, you may find more (and better) information on a forum for model train enthusiasts. This is a link to one such forum:

If you are not familiar with that forum, you will need to first register to post on it. Registration is free.

Best wishes.

Want to use this on 220v aussie supply to power 1947 221 lionel train loco Suitable?

ohh no that id not try at all , one can first use a power converter that one can buy off many online sources to convert 220 volt down to 110 volt then to transformer this will be safe 4 unit, the 50HZ to 60 Hz doesn't matter to much as well unless one plans on using the lionel sound generator , then its not gonna sound to spry as it will be a bit slower !!

Lionel legacy will not run more than 2 trains

see pages 44 & 45 of attached pdf to figure out your power requirements for all locomotives, lamps/light bulbs & accessories.
compare total needed to power output of your transformer, if total is less that output of transformer, clean wheels, roller pickups & track.
if total is greater than output of transformer, you need more power/larger output transformer. lean wheels, roller pickups track.

Lionel o guage santa fe steam engine locomotive won't reverse even with reverse switch on?

You do not specify which Santa Fe steam engine you have, but I am going to guess it's the Santa Fe RTR O27 set...

Here's a link to the manual for it. Go to page 9, read the last paragraph on the page. It may be the answer to your problem

Lionel Train transformer goes full throttle only

Sounds like the "variable resistor" that allows for a variable speed is either defective, or has become corroded on it's switch contacts. You might get lucky with some electrical contact cleaner spray and spraying it in or around the variable speed switch. Otherwise, I'd just invest in a new transformer.

My new lionel train slows down on far side of the track

There is bad contact in the track connections. You can sand the track connection sites. Another method is to run another power wire to the other end of the track where the train slows down. Even better is 3 or 4 evenly spaced power wires from the transformer to the track.

3 year old Lionel 4-4-2 (road number 8632) that will not run on antique track. Does anyone have any insight into whether this locomotive needs a digital power source or if it would have an issue running on...

you may have to use a Lionel transformer for this because some older trains worked on AC current not the DC current that this train uses

I am trying to hook up a Lionel 1033 transformer to my Christmas train. What terminal goes to what? I want my old 2026 to smoke and my 6446W to whistle.

I have the original Instructions for Operating the 1033(written in 1953) - the second paragraph of the "How To Connect Transformer" reads as follows: The "Multi -Control" transformers listed in this leaflet have four binding posts located on the top of the transformers. Of these, "A-U" and "B-U" combinations furnish variable voltage for the track. The control arm of the transformer simultaneously regulate the voltage output of both the "A-U" and the "B-U" combinations. The transformer nameplate indicates the voltage ranges of these two combinations. The "A-U" combination supplies any voltage from 5 to 16 volts. The B-U combination has voltage from 0 to 11 volts. In selecting the proper range of voltage for your particular outfit, try the lower "B-U" combination first. If the maximum train speed is not satisfactory, then try the "A-U" posts.

To paraphrase the "How to Connect Accessories" section: accessories work best with fixed voltage - these voltages are obtained from the following pairs of output binding posts: "A-B" 5 volts; "B-C" 11 volts and "A-C" 16 volts.
Hope this helps, Mark
