Question about Belkin Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I was trying to hook up my PS3 and could not find a WEP key 26 digits. I went into Belkin Router set up and made up a sentence and received WEP key 26 digits so I used those 26 digits to set up my PS3. The problem is that my lap top does not work now because it says,"put in your network security key" I put in the 26 digits and it says, "Wireless security types do not match. What do I do? Do you know how to fix this? Thank you, Trish

How to setup WEP on a Belkin N1 Wireless Router F5D8231-4 v5000

1. Log into the router. To do this you will need to open your web browser and enter http://192.168.2.1
Note If you change the default IP address then you will need that address to log into the router. Normally it is the Gateway IP. You can check this by opening CMD via the Run command window. Once it is open then type ipconfig and hit enter.

2. Click Login in the upper right hand corner of the page. The router does not ship with a password, so just click submit.

0c82f86.png
3. Next you will click on the Wireless heading then Security in the left hand column.

4. Select “128-bit WEP” or “64-bit WEP” from the drop-down menu.

536afa8.png
5. Next you can enter your WEP key manually by typing in the hex values in the space provided, or you can type a passphrase in the “PassPhrase” field and click “Generate” to create a WEP key from the passphrase. Click “Apply Changes” to finish.

Note a hexadecimal key is a mixture of numbers and letters from A–F and 0–9. 64-bit keys are 10 digits long and can be divided into five two-digit numbers. 128-bit keys are 26 digits long and can be divided into 13 two-digit numbers.

At this point you should have your WEP setup. When you connect your computer to the wireless router you will be prompt for the WEP key you just set up.

Find the WEP Key for wireless system.

Not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but this is what I did when I set up my Belkin (well, before I wanted more security and went WPA)...

1. Log into your Router or Access Point.

Open your web browser and type in IP address of the Router or Access Point. (The Router default is 192.168.2.1, the 802.11g Access Point is 192.168.2.254 ). Log into your router by clicking on the "Login" button in the top right-hand corner of the screen. You will be asked to enter your password. If you never set a password, leave the password field blank and click "Submit".

Click the "Wireless" tab on the left of your screen. Select the "Encryption" or "Security" tab to get to the security settings page.

2. Select "128-bit WEP" from the drop-down menu.

3. After selecting your WEP encryption mode, you can type in your hex WEP key manually, or you can type in a passphrase in the "Passphrase" field and click "Generate" to create a WEP key from the passphrase. Click "Apply Changes" to finish. You must now set all of your clients to match these settings. A hex (hexadecimal) key is a mixture of numbers and letters from A-F and 0-9. For 128-bit WEP, you need to enter 26 hex keys.

For example:

C3030FAF4BB2C3D44BC3D4E7E4 = 128-bit key

4. Click "Apply Changes" to finish. Encryption in the Router is now set. Each of your computers on your wireless network will now need to be configured with the same security settings.

Where is the wep key located on my virgin router

Connect your desktop computer to your Belkin router, and access the router's built-in web-server software. Then, run the "Wireless Network Setup Wizard", to configure the router's wireless networking capabilities. As part of that process, you will be required to _create_ a "WEP-key" value. Use that value when configuring the wireless capability of your PS3.

How can i get my WEP key for my ps3.

Check your router settings on your pc. This is done by inputing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of a web browser.
A belkin is 192.168.1.2. The default password is admin. You shouldn't have anyproblems locating your key on the site. If your ISP hooked up your wireless, they will know your WEP key.

Hi there,
you might need to reset your router:

On the back of your router there is a reset button, press and hold that when power on, until all the lights are blinking simultaneously (about 30 sec).
Connect a computer to any one of the four LAN ports of the Belkin wireless router. DO NOT use a wireless connection, use a cable.
Open your web browser and type the IP address of the router (by default, the address is http://192.168.2.1.) in the address bar and press Enter.
Click Login on the top of the page to login to the router. By default the Password is left blank, clickSubmit.
Click Security under Wireless menu.
Under Security, Select 64 bit WEP (or 128 bit WEP).
Select Key 1 and enter any 10 hexadecimal digits - any combination of 0-9, A-F (26 digits if you selected 128-bit as the encryption strength). You may also enter a pass phrase and have the router generate a key for you. Example (0102030405060708090a0b0c)
Apply the settings. Please write down the key – You will need it later to configure your wireless computers with the same key.
Remember to set an admin password before you close down, other vice anyone can access you router and change the setup and admin password.
