Hi. I have an Amana/Maytag Fridge. Model ABD2233DES bottom freezer. The fridge was working fine, then it seemed like the compressor or motor started to make a funny noise. Like it was working hard or trying to kick in to cool. Then after a bit of time noticed all my freezer good were thawed and the fridge had stopped cooling? It won't get cold at all. Why won't this fridge get cold?

Miele Fridge Freezer not getting cold

Power off and remove all fluff under the fridge.
Compressor can be hot but not too hot. Are the settings ok for desired level cold. Is the fridge too heavily loaded? Try now.

Sub zero 532 fridge is not cooling porperly but freezer is fine

Top of Form

If there is no cooling at all on the fridge section but the freezer works then it is confirmed that the compressor and gas pressure is OK. Now shut off the fridge and leave it powered off while you clean and check the evaporator for frost. If frost is seen it is a good indication as the compressor is working with sufficient gas within.
Now after about 6 hours plug in the fridge to start. Observe cooling to happen in about one hour and ice to from under three hours.
Earlier make sure that the thermostat was set to normal mode for freezer and fridge.
However if ice forms in the freezer then observe the fridge for about 24 hours for cooling to continue and the fridge to cut off . If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked. Frost formation without defrosting could block the air flow and so shut the air passage to the fridge. Also the blower fan must work and if this is not working then the fan can be faulty. Also a fault on the control unit is a suspect to non functioning of any one of these components.
If defrost timer works but frost keeps forming check while the compressor shuts if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
So try this test using a multi-meter on the defrost timer and the thermostat and make your observations so that we come to the solution.

If there is no cooling at all , before we go further we must confirm the first step of confirming the compressor and gas pressure. So shut off the fridge and leave it off while you clean and check the evaporator for frost.
If there is no ice formation we have a big issue as the compressor and gas must be checked out. If compressor is running check the pressure, get help to test gas pressure. If not you will need to fill up ,If gas pressure is good the possibility of the compressor being inefficient is high. In such a case you must take consensus to estimate and decide, if RPM of motor is low check capacitor.
However if Ice forms then observe the fridge for about 24 hours for cooling to continue and the fridge to cut off . If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked.
If defrost timer works but frost keeps forming check while the compressor shuts if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
So try this test from the outside and make your observations so that we come to the solution.

I have a ten year old Amana bottom freezer refrigerator bx21v1c,and the compressor has died. I am debating as to whether to buy a new refrigerator or to pay up to $800 to replace the compressor.

Hi,
There is no way that I would spend $800.00 on a ten year old fridge... I can do my own and I would not replace a compressor on a ten year old unit...too many problems afterward...too many other things that could go wrong shortly...

You will be better off to take the $800.00 and put it towards a new unit...

Hi, I have a amana fridge with freezer on the bottom. It has an ice maker and water dispenser. The big problem is a buzzing noise comming from the fridge, it start aprox every 16 min and buzzes for 10...

The buzzing you hear is the water valve trying to run water to the icemaker. If there is no water going to the icemaker it will be going into cycles one after another. And when it does it adds heat into the freezer. Turn the ice maker off and see if the freezer gets colder.

We have a frigidaire model number frt045gb upright freestanding fridge and the light is on inside but the motor isnt running,it is warm in the freezer and fridge part

Since the light comes on, but nothing else runs, check the defrost timer. If it is stuck in the defrost cycle, the light will come on, but nothing else works.

My freezer is working but the rest of the fridge is hot

Hi, it is possible for your freezer to work when you fridge is not working. Fridge-freezer appliances have independent controls which can malfunction separately. If your freezer is fine and your fridge seems down, there are several things that could be wrong but what i suspect is that... You should check the damper door located between the freezer and fridge compartments to make sure it opens and closes, sometimes they get an ice build up there and this causes them to stick shut, remove ice with hair dryer or remove and device and replace this will solve your trouble.
Best of all is to call in a local fridge technician around to get it fixed, it won't cost you much...

Take care
