Hi, I accidentally set the remote control of my Panasonic DMR-ES30V dvd recorder to mode2. I have previously used it mode 1 and everything was fine. Now i have limited use. Is there any way of resetting the DVD player because I can't get the function menu to come up on the screen now.
I'm trying to record a DVD and get a message that says "Unsupport" or "protect". I did call Panasonic and they said it needs to be serviced. I just used it the othe day and I can't understand the failure. Whiel on the phone with the Tech support we did try three different + R discs: Imation, TDK and Sony. Can someone help me?

Eventually the front panel display will show "SERV" (after its "HELLO" messages). Anyway, pressing then on the Remote Control tells me that I have an Error Code of "04" which is a Digital PCB or Communication Error (whereas an Error code of "02" means a "Defect of RAM drive"). (To exit from Service Mode, press then which should get you back to "SERV" and then POWER-OFF the machine). Hopefully, your manual will display your error codes.
Perhaps the remote control is not set to the same control code as your DMR-ES40V. Codes may be set to 1, 2, or 3 on the remote by holding down the enter button and one of those number buttons for several seconds at the same time. The factory default is code 1. Try 1 first. If that doesn't work try 2. If that doesn't work try 3. If one of those codes doesn't work you may have a bad remote or a bad sensor on your machine. On DMR-ES35V models the sensor is located just to the right of center behind the black window
Try a different brand of blank dvd+r or -r. you will find that your dvd machine is fussy on what discs it plays. More exspensive dvd players are fussy with what dvd discs you put in, as cheaper dvd players would virtualy play most types of dvds.
My compliments to the foresight of your father. Your described concern is not caused by a "lock". It is indicative that the recording session was not 100% completed. Rather than 'crack', what is required is the final step in the recording. All the DVDs must be "finalized" in the same machine that recorded the movies, the Panasonic DVD Recorder DMR-ES30V. The finalize option would be in the MENU/Settings and must be enabled. Finalization per disc would take some time.
