Any time an electrical motor burned out, a smoke clound come out and a very unpleasant smell come out. If you did not anticipate the above then look for problem elsewhere.

My mixer will only work on high speed why

Speed controllers reduce the power provided to the mixer motor and have to "soak up" some of the power not used. If the mixer was used on low speed but heavy load, it could have burned out the speed controller. Some of them fail by shorting out which means that the motor always gets full power regardless of speed setting. It sounds like your speed controller has burned out.

My Sunbeam Mixmaster 100-86 659 stopped mixing. The motor turns on but won't drive the beaters.

Sounds like motor is burning out or has burned out. How old is it and do you use it for heavy things. They won't last if it is a cheaper model. I had a cheaper one and got very little time out of it. I bought a lot more expensive one and it has lasted several years.

How do I determine if the motor is burned out on my HB standup mixer model 84580?

call an electrician
it could be a thermal protection switch , start/run capacitor or dead motor
if it is a motor it is cheaper to get a new one and if you want it use it outside it's capacity then get a bigger replacement motor
for example if the current motor is 1 hp or 750 watts get a 2 hp or 1500 watts

My Sunbeam mixmaster junior model-jc is smelling when it runs

the smell will be burning insulation on the windings of the motor probably from the brushes being too short and arcing on the armature thereby overheating the motor. suggest you take it to an appliance repair shop for quote on repairs.

The capacitor on the speed switch is burning out.

I have found that the capacitor is no longer available, along with
any of the motor parts. Armature, brushes, motor end bearing, etc, are not available.
