All the washers go under the upper side of the paddle spindle

Paddle won't turn in the breadmaker with any resistance My breadmaker paddle won't turn under pressure. I put all the ingred. in and turn on the machine.

Are you certain that it is on the right rod? Have you tried changing it with the one that works? This would help in defining the problem. Best wishes

It may be hard to turn by hand but does it turn when the machine is
turned on? If so it is OK even if you can't turn it by hand

It's likely a harder, heat resistant type of plastic and the breadmaker does not get hot enough to cause the paddle to release any toxic chemicals.

Hi, The paddle should turn freely by hand with the bread pan out of the machine. Make sure the pan is inserted in the machine correctly. If the motor shaft turns but the paddle doesn't then the sealed bearing that the paddle rotates on has failed and is frozen so the paddle does not turn.. You may need a new bread pan. Hank

If you take the pan out of the machine and can't turn the paddle freely by hand, then the sealed bearing is frozen. You can try putting warm water in the pan and soaking it. After a few tries if it does not free up then the sealed bearing is broken and bread pan needs to be replaced. Good Luck..Hank

My Breadmakers Hearth was making the same sound, so after taking it apart I found that it was only the Bread Pans "under paddle" that the machine reaches up and connects to to drive the Paddle. I wears loose and wobbles and starts to slip making that banging sound. You can either replace the Bread Pan or like I did INVERT the under paddle (requires removing the C-clamp washer) to extend the life of the Pan and use of the Hearth. Hope this helps you.

I had a paddle freeze on me too I took apart the lower end and lubricated it then put it back together

I've had pretty good results with a crochet hook (use a metal one that can be run through your dishwasher). Insert the hook through the hole in the paddle and it should catch on the far side just enough to pull the paddle out of the loaf. Best to do it before it cools and the crust hardens, though.
