I have a Dell XPS M1530 and my battery will not charge. When the A/C adapter is plugged in, the battery icon shows a message "plugged in, not charging". I have taken the battery out and waited 5 minuted, put the battery back in and then booted the notebook back up; but still shows the same message. I cannot get the battery to charge and it is stuck at 14% battery strength. It is really annoying that I have to keep my notebook plugged in just to use it. Can you please help???

great machine, try starting the thing up with the battery out of it and just the AC adapter plugged in. if that works then your battery needs replaced. if yous still get nothing and the battery indicates it's charged then unplug the ac adapter and try powering it up with the battery only, anything else is going to involve surgery to remove the memory and test that way. Are you at least getting any lights on the system? if the system board is dead you either won't get any lights or ones that were usually green (like the power button) will light up amber. this system is out of warranty now so if the system board is dead in it then the best bet is to try ebay for the replacement part and have a shop swap the board out for you. if you don't want to get that involved in it let me know i am a Dell certified systems expert (dcse) and i can either fix it for you or buy it from you and fix it up for someone else. I LOVE the XPS systems.
Try to see if there is a BIOS update for your laptop. The last version is A12. That sometimes will fix the problem. If not then it is most likely that the internal charger is built into the motherboard of the laptop is starting to fail. You would have to replace that part or most likely the entire motherboard.
Its a common issue for DELL Laptops usually if the battery and charger are working fine the culprit is the motherboard. If its still under warranty have them replace the motherboard and it will be good as new. Thanks
This message is a indicator that your battery is approaching EOL ( end of life) however it will continue to work normally what you can do is consideer buying a new battery at your convience Dont forget to say thanks
Try power drain by removing the battery and ac adapter then press the power button for 10 seconds. Plug the ac adapter back in and set aside the battery. Turn the system on.
If it doesn't power up, run the diagnostics utility by pressing the Fn+Power button at the same time.
If it still doesn't power on, motherboard needs replacement.
Note: Your XPS M1530 might still be under warranty. Dell can replace your motherboard for free.
This is a VERY common problemTry charging the computer battery without turning it on for atleast 8 hours then please update the system BIOS use the following link "http://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/Win1501263.EXE" that will help resolve your issue. Check out the link below.http://getsatisfaction.com/dell/topics/why_doesnt_my_computer_recognize_my_battery
Turn the computer off.
Remove the battery.
Disconnect the AC adapter.
Reconnect the battery.
Turn it on, and it should be "unlocked".
If not, tell us what error-message(s) are displayed.
There could be a problem with the battery. A fast check to determine whether you have a problem with the power
adapter, power cord or the laptop's battery is to turn off the laptop,
remove the battery, connect the power adapter, turn on the laptop &
see if it works. If the laptop works directly from the power adapter
with the battery removed, then the power adapter is good. In this case
we can suspect that the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
when the battery is fully charged the circuit inside the laptop, automatically. stop charging to increase the the life of the battery,,, thank you,, plz rate me.,,,
